Sacramento Republic FC will host the Harrisburg City Islanders in their inaugural home opener at Hughes Stadium on the campus of Sacramento City College. Kick off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with gates opening at 5:30 p.m.
Republic FC enters the match following a loss to Arizona United SC on April 19. Republic FC struck first in the 27th minute when Rodrigo Lopez scored. Lopez had split the defense passed the ball to forward Thomas Stewart and received it back to find an open shot for the goal.
Arizona found an equalizer ten minutes later when Brandon Swartzendruber’s received a cross by Matt Kassel that left him one-on-one with goalkeeper Dominik Jakubek. Swartzendruber was able to finish the shot leveling the score at one. In the 45th minute Republic FC defender Mickey Daly was given his second yellow card when he fouled an attacker in the box. Jakubek was able to stop Kassel’s penalty shot keeping the score level going into the half.
Playing the second half a man down Republic created many chances but were unable to break through for a second goal. Arizona was able to find the net for a second time in the 85th minute when a crossed ball found Kadeem Dacres who was able to set up Jonathon Top’s header.
Harrisburg City comes into the match after having dropped their match against Orange County Blues FC on Thursday April 24. Orange County came out quickly and scored in the 6th minute and did not stop from there scoring four more times. Harrisburg holds 0-2-1 record for the season.
