Sacramento Republic FC vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2
Bonney Field
August 27, 2016
Sacramento Republic FC 0| Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 0
Sacramento Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle
(On the match overall)
“I think I scared the life out of our staff tonight, Adam, Simon and Tony. They said, ‘what are you doing, we’re controlling the game’. Normally in a game like that, when you dominate the game with so many chances, it flips on you so I wanted to change the dynamic. And I felt to the very end we looked like the team most likely to score.”
(On Carlton Cole’s debut)
“You’ve got to know how to use Cole. The one thing that’s good for us is that we’re able to hit balls to the back post. He’s made a living out of scoring goals on the back post and making goals. Even in the short space of time we managed to find him. If you loft the ball in there and it’s not a great ball, he can make it into a great ball.”
(On Elliot Hord’s performance)
“I thought Elliott at right back was fantastic for his debut. I think we found a real player there. Very good going forward, clever, intelligent. Understood when to deliver and when to play and I really liked him. I thought there were a lot of pluses tonight.”
Sacramento Republic FC Defender Elliott Hord
(On his professional debut)
“It was really nice to be here. The atmosphere was electric. It was a weird feeling, I can’t really explain, to be surrounded by so many people and the positive vibe from the fans. I got a lot of good feedback from my teammates. It was big, it was emotional. When I came off the field it was pretty emotional because it was a big step for me. I still have a lot to proof but I think I kind of proofed myself a little bit tonight.
(On signing with Republic FC)
“Playing in the PDL, [with Fresno Fuego], in the preseason games we’ve played against Sacramento every year. I’ve obviously known about Sacramento and I was actually here in the first season on trial and it just didn’t work out. It’s funny how I kind of made a big loop around. Now I’m back. I couldn’t have imagined seeing myself on the field now. I was going to the games before, the 20,000 seater games at the junior college and I though, you know what, I’ll be back here.”
