SACRAMENTO, Calif. (November 9, 2016) – Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a contract with defender Enrique Montano for the 2017 USL season, pending league and federation approval. Montano joins Republic FC after playing his first two seasons with Louisville City FC.
“Enrique is a young player who, at just 23-years-old, is beyond his years technically with the ball at his feet,” said Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “When he became available, we reached out. After speaking with him, we learned of his desire to return to California, and I feel that he is right for the club. He knows the area, knows the club and has a very good left foot. His ability to deliver the ball will be a great asset for us as we move into next season.”
Born and raised in Salinas, Montano played his college soccer at San José State University. He appeared in 53 matches, including 51 starts, scoring two goals and recording three assists in three seasons as a Spartan. Montano joined Louisville City FC following his senior season at San José State.
Montano appeared in 32 games over two seasons with Louisville City FC, playing 2,433 minutes. He recorded six assists, third-most of any Louisville player during that time period.
