Two first half goals were enough for West Bromwich Albion to earn their second straight victory over Sacramento Republic FC. Republic FC would salvage a goal late but it wasn’t enough resulting in a 3-1 final.

West Bromwich Albion FC was first on the score sheet for the second match in a row in the 13th minute. Forward Jaido Berahino sent a side volley shot past Republic FC goalkeeper Dominik Jakubek into the lower right side netting for the first goal of the match.

Republic FC’s best chance of the half came in the 27th minute when Steven Evans took a shot from just inside the box. The shot was blocked away by West Bromwich Albion midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu, who was playing on the touchline.

West Bromwich Albion doubled their lead in the 30th minute when forward Jaido Berahino stole the ball from Jack Avesyan on the right wing, took one touch to the touchline and sent a low driven cross in front of the goal. Mulumbu finished the cross with a one touch left-footed shot that lofted into the upper left corner of the goal.

The half ended with West Bromwich Albion leading 2-0. In the 62nd minute West Bromwich Albion scored for a third time. Forward Victor Anichebe took a brilliant turn with the ball shielding it from the defender. Anichebe then took a laser shot past a diving Jakubek from 25 yards out putting West Bromwich Albion ahead 3-0.

Republic FC showed that it had some fight left in the 73rd minute when San Jose loan player J.J. Koval finished a corner kick after the ball glanced off a defender, off the post, then bounced right to Koval who made the score 3-1.

“Their composure on the ball, how good they are technically, and their spacing and their ability to play in tight spaces is on another level.” Republic FC midfielder Steven Evans said following the match.

Republic FC will be in action again on Sunday, July 25 when they take on the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in USL PRO action. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Bonney Field. Tickets are still available for the match and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com.
