Sacramento Republic FC Academy midfielder Ryley Kraft was called up to train with the U.S. Men’s U-19 National Team during the team’s domestic camp in Sunrise, Flo. From Feb. 3-10. The team is led by former USMNT goalkeeper Brad Friedel.
“Being called up is a huge honor for me,” said Kraft. “I've worked hard to get here and I'm excited to train with some of the best youth players in the country. It's going to push me to get better.”
The U.S. U-19s will play friendlies against El Salvador and Miami FC during the camp. The is the first camp and first match of 2017 for the U-19 MNT, with the team’s last match taking place last November against Miami FC.
This is Kraft’s first call up to the ranks of the U.S. Youth National Team. The midfielder has made 16 appearances with Republic FC’s U-17/18s team during the 2016-2017 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season, starting in 13 of those. Kraft has six goals on the season.
Kraft is joined on the current U-19 MNT roster by players from other U.S. Development Academy programs, as well as collegiate players and two USL players. He is one of eight players making his debut for the U.S. U-19s.
Overall, Kraft is the 12th Republic FC Academy player called up to a national team and the 10th to be called up to a U.S. Youth National Team. This past December, U-15/16 defender Edward Berumen was called up to the U.S. U-16 Boys’ National Team for the IMG Cup: Boys Invitational. This week also saw nine U-17/18 Academy players sign Letters of Intent to play collegiate soccer at various programs, including UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, CSU Northridge, University of the Pacific, Menlo College, Oregon State, Bradley University, Loyola Marymount University and University of San Francisco.
Academy play resumes this weekend for the U-12s, U-13s and U-14s when they host their respective Placer United counterparts this Saturday, Feb. 4 at Cosumnes River College. The U-15/16s and U-17/18s will have a hiatus this weekend, after playing back to back days on Jan. 28 and Jan. 29. The teams will host Seattle Sounders FC U-15/16s and U-17/18s on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Cosumnes River College.
