Sacramento Republic FC will travel north to Washington to start their 2017 USL campaign when they face Seattle Sounders FC 2 on Sunday, Mar. 26.  Kickoff at Starfire Sports Complex is 2 p.m.  The match will be streamed live at SacRepublicFC.com/matchday-guide.  Republic FC will host two official watch parties at de Vere’s Irish Pub in downtown Sacramento and SacTown Sports Bar in Old Sacramento.

This is the third consecutive season that Republic FC have started their season on the road in Washington.  S2 won the first matchup 4-2 on Mar. 21, 2015 and Republic FC won last season’s opener 1-0 on Mar. 25, 2016.  Republic FC lead the overall series 5-1-0, winning the last five matches against S2.

Republic FC enter the match following a strong preseason that showed a renewed sense of scoring.  Republic FC netted 18 goals in eight preseason matches, including five goals in their two matches against USL opponents.

Forwards Sammy Ochoa, Trevin Caesar and Tyler Blackwood all joined Republic FC this offseason following strong 2016 USL campaigns with Tulsa Roughnecks FC, Orange County SC (then Orange County Blues FC) and Phoenix Rising FC (then Arizona United SC) respectively.  The forwards combined for 29 goals in 2016 with Ochoa and Caesar leading their clubs in goals.  All three have continued strong form in the preseason combining for eight goals and two assists, with Ochoa leading all Republic FC scorers this preseason with six goals.

Republic FC also made important additions to their defense and midfield.  Midfielder Adam Moffat and defender Julius James joined the club after playing in the NASL in 2016, while midfielder Jeremy Hall joined Republic FC full time after playing with the club on loan in 2016. Moffat, James and Hall carry a combined 20 years of MLS experience and will bring a sense of calm to Republic FC’s defense and midfield.

S2 enters the match with one of the youngest rosters in the USL, with an average age of 20.2 years old and their oldest player being just 23. S2 is expected to have multiple loan players from Sounders FC and the Sounders FC Academy.

Defender Brian Nana-Sinkam joins S2 for the season after being selected 22nd overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by Sounders FC.  Nana-Sinkam was a four-year player with Stanford, winning two NCAA titles and being named to the All-Pac-12 First Team in 2016.

S2 also added two young Cameroonian players to their roster, Rodrigue Ele and Felix Chenkam.  Ele, 19, and Chenkam, 18, both played last season with Rainbow FC Bamenda in Cameroon. Both players are members of the Cameroon U-20 National Team.

Republic FC will host two official watch parties at de Vere’s Irish Pub in downtown Sacramento and SacTown Sports Bar in Old Sacramento.  de Vere’s Irish Pub is located at 1521 L St and SacTown Sports Bar is located at 106 J St.  Fans are encouraged to arrive early for best seating.  The match will be streamed live at SacRepublicFC.com/matchday-guide.
