Republic FC claim two spots for Team of the Week in Week 2

Sacramento Republic FC forwards Sammy Ochoa and Wilson Kneeshaw have earned Team of the Week honors for their performances in Week 2 of USL play. Both players had significant contributions in Republic FC’s 4-0 win over Orange County SC on Saturday, Apr. 1. This is Republic FC’s second time with a player represented in the USL Team of the Week in 2017, with defender Emrah Klimenta being named in the Week 1 Team of the Week.

Ochoa continued his goal scoring streak by netting two against Orange County SC. The striker struck first in the 23rd minute and added his second in the 60th minute. Ochoa now leads the USL in goals with three in two matches. With his three goals, Ochoa also leads the club, holding half of the team total.

“As long as I help out the team in the best way I can that’s the most important thing,” said Ochoa. “Team of the Week and Player of the Week that’s just a title, it’s just an award. I just want to go out and work on the weekend and try to get the best result and help out the team the best I can.”

Kneeshaw earned his spot on the Team of the Week for his resilient performance in the 4-0 win on Saturday. The 23-year-old worked tirelessly in the frontline, creating multiple chances, two of which Ochoa slotted into the back of the net. Kneeshaw got himself on the scoresheet in the 68th minute, blasting the ball into the net off a perfect lobbed pass from forward Tyler Blackwood.

“It’s the first one I’ve got, it’s the first one of the season so obviously I’m happy to help out the team in any way I can with goals and assists. It’s a great a great accolade and I’ll be trying to build on that. Just onwards and upwards from there.”

Midfielder Adam Moffat earned Team of the Week bench honors for his own efforts. Moffat was a crucial part of the win, bringing a calm and controlled pace to the Republic FC midfield.
