Republic FC defeated OCSC by scores of 1-0 in both of their contests last season.

What’s the latest on the team?

Republic FC (8-9-2, 26 pts) will look to get back into the win column on Saturday night when they head to Southern California for their first showdown of the year with Orange County SC.

The Indomitable Club come into the match after falling short to New Mexico United on Wednesday night by a final score of 2-1. Sam Werner delivered his sixth goal of the season in the 75th minute to tie things up at 1-1 before New Mexico United dealt the crushing blow. Second-half substitute Daniel Bruce took the wind out of Papa Murphy’s Park with a sublime volleyed effort from 30 yards out in the 89th minute that would go on to be the winning goal.

Despite the loss, Republic FC remains in the thick of the playoff race as they sit in the ninth spot in the Western Conference standings, just three points back of fourth-placed Austin Bold FC.

What about the other guys?

Orange County SC (6-7-8, 26 pts) host Republic FC after a Wednesday night matchup of their own where they defeated Reno 1868 FC 4-1. The midweek win lifted OCSC into the 10th spot in the Western Conference, right on the heels of Republic FC.

While Orange County has struggled to win on the road, they hold a respectable home record (5-3-3) and could benefit from having home-field advantage on Saturday night. Ranking ninth in the USL Championship in goals (33) and 12th in shots (262), Orange County have shown they can be one of the more offensively aggressive teams in the league. Republic FC will look to break their scoring slump this weekend against an Orange County defense that has conceded the 10th most goals in the USL.

It has been over a year since the last time these two teams faced off. Back on June 2, 2018, Republic FC upended Orange County 1-0 to sweep the season series. The boys in Old Glory Red also defeated OCSC in March of 2018 by an identical final of 1-0, holding their foe scoreless in each contest last season.

Republic FC has fared well in the all-time series, taking care of business at Papa Murphy’s Park and on the road. They will look to claim their third-straight series road win on Saturday night at Championship Soccer Stadium.
