Peer-Voted Awards

Team MVP - Jaime Villarreal

Jaime Villarreal was a stalwart in the midfield all season long, playing a total of 2,820 minutes in 36 league matches. Villarreal held a 80.9 passing success rate, being a key distributer in the midfield. The 24-year-old returned from injury right at the beginning of the 2019 season, after being sidelined in August of 2018. His first minutes back were in Republic FC's win over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on March 16. Villarreal scored his first goal of the season against Austin Bold FC on April 6, clinching the win for the Indomitable Club. He scored again in August against Switchbacks FC, almost exactly a year to the day that he was injured.

Defensive MVP - Jordan Mccrary

After arriving in Sacramento when the season was already underway, Jordan McCrary quickly cemented his spot in the Republic FC backline. McCrary started in all of his 29 league matches played, for a total of 2,516 minutes. The 26-year-old defender made a spectacular save off the line against Phoenix Rising FC, and also contributed up top with an assist on the season. McCrary was voted the Five Star Bank Player of the Month in June.

Play of the Year - Mitchell Taintor

Mitchell Taintor's fantastic goal against Reno 1868 FC was voted the top play of the season.

Fan-Voted Awards

Save of the Year - Matt Mahoney

Defender Matt Mahoney's goal-line clearance helped Republic FC maintain the lead and eventually take a crucial win over Portland Timbers 2.

Goal of the Year - Darek Formella

With Republic FC at 1-1 against Rio Grande Valley FC, and just under ten minutes to go,  forward Darek Formella slammed home a pass from Keven Aleman to snatch all three points from the visitors. However, what struck a cord with people all over the world was his celebration, as the forward fell to his knees with his hands over his face. We would later learn that Formella's father had passed away earlier that day and he had the kept the information to himself and decided to move forward with playing that day. His touching tribute and teammate Haris Chantzopoulos' reaction ended up going viral, as this incredible moment touched hearts around the globe.
