Let's take a closer look at the SRFC Academy Player of the Month for October, Nathaniel Carrasco

Position:  Forward
Hometown:  Sacramento, CA
Goals this month:  3 (4 total)
Minutes:  277
Appearances:  4 (3 starts)
Memorable moment:  58th minute equalizer against FC Juarez on Oct. 9

The young forward was constantly on the hunt for a goal during the Oct. 9 international friendly against FC Juarez.

After netting three goals in three consecutive U.S. Soccer Development Academy matches, and once against a club from Mexico’s top tier of professional soccer, forward Nathaniel Carrasco has been named the Republic FC Academy Player of the Month for October.

Nathaniel Carrasco has tormented opposing academy defenses all season.

Carrasco, who currently plays for the Republic FC U-18/19s, kicked off the month with a 65th minute equalizer against De Anza Force on October 5, a match that ended 1-1. The very next game, Carrasco scored in the 71st minute of a 1-1 draw to San Jose Earthquakes. The youngster proceeded to make it three goals from three matches when he netted the lone goal for the boys in Old Glory Red during a 4-1 defeat to Seattle Sounders on October 26.

Not only has Carrasco asserted his offensive dominance over the USSDA competition this season, but the speedy striker even scored against FC Juarez of Mexico’s Liga MX.

Can anybody stop Carrasco from scoring? The striker has four goals in USSDA play this season.

Carrasco’s shining moment of the October 9 international friendly against Juarez came in the 58th minute when a shot from distance slammed into the crossbar and the rebound fell directly to Carrasco. The cool, calm and composed striker picked his spot and rifled his shot by the visiting goalkeeper to level the game at three-all.

Juarez went on to win the contest, 4-3, but Carrasco’s goal was the third time during the exhibition match that Sacramento fought back from a goal-down to level the score. Carrasco, much like the entire Republic FC team, demonstrated a tremendous amount of grit and resilience that night. A resiliency that Republic FC fans should be excited about watching for years to come.

The young forward did everything but shy away from the spotlight, as Carrasco dazzled the crowd with his fancy footwork.

Carrasco’s team-high 15 goals last season helped to carry the U-16/17s to a solid winning record in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference. According to the USSDA website, during the 2016-2017 academy campaign with the U-14s, he bagged 42 goals in only 29 games.
