The Republic FC attack featured some scorching strikes last season. Heading into the 2020 campaign, let's take a look at what the finishers on the front line have in store for this year.

The Republic FC attack didn’t have any trouble creating scoring chances in 2019.

The Indomitable Club finished the season with the seventh-most shots in the entire USL and had nine different players register 20 or more chances created during league play. But only a 14% goal conversion rate means the team can easily pinpoint an area for slight improve this coming campaign.

That said, finishing wasn’t always the issue last season.

The boys in Old Glory Red scored three goals or more during league play eight times and averaged just under two goals per game at home. With the return of a veteran scorer who has back-to-back 17 goal seasons, the offense shouldn’t have any issues providing plenty of excitement in 2020.

The most pivotal piece of the Indomitable Club’s attacking front is the return of captain Cameron Iwasa, entering his fifth season with his hometown team.

The club’s all-time leader in goals and appearances will have the opportunity to break the club’s all-time assist record at some point this season, given the Sacramento native is already tied with Danny Barrera’s 16 assists for the current club record. Iwasa is fresh off a team-best 17-goal season, tying the SRFC record for most strikes in a single campaign, a record set by Iwasa in 2018.

Iwasa netted five game-winning goals during 2019 and finished the year strong with seven goals and three assists in his last 12 regular season games. The striker also led Republic FC in assists this season with six.

Newcomer and versatile attacker Kharlton Belmar has a history of previously playing as a forward and could also be an option for Mark Briggs up front this season. The 2015 USL Rookie of the Year has recorded double digit goal scoring seasons three times over his establish career.

Another player, like Belmar, who will likely add more to the midfield then the traditional forward position but does have previous experience up front is Dariusz Formella. The Polish playmaker notched back-to-back game-winners this past season so there’s no need to question his goal scoring prowess.
