The other, a riveting 3-1 win over bitter rivals LA Galaxy II.
Both games produced different outcomes, different storylines, and different memories for Republic FC fans of all ages.

Before the new season kicks off in less than two months, let’s revisit the next wave of opening home matches.
It was the first of many, many times that Cameron Iwasa played the role of hero for his hometown club. With the game deadlock at zero in the 79th minute against Arizona United SC, the Sacramento native entered the match and just five minutes later scored the game winning goal to lift SRFC to a 1-0 win at home on opening day. It was Iwasa’s first career game-winner with the Indomitable Club during league play, and the first of his 12 league goals on the 2016 campaign.
Following the match, a fired-up Iwasa talked about how massive the home opener win was.
“I was buzzing to get on the field,” Iwasa said following the match. “As a sub you just want to come on and make something happen and fortunately, I was able to do so. Ultimately it was just a huge win. Three points is crucial.”
Over 11,500 Republic FC supporters came out to watch their boys in Old Glory Red cruise to a 4-0 home opener victory over Orange County SC on April Fool’s Day. Striker Sammy Ochoa bagged a brace and both Wilson Kneeshaw and Harry Williams added second half strikes to seal the rout over Sacramento’s SoCal rivals. Williams logged all of four minutes at the end of the match before beating the visiting goalkeeper.
