Just like the training field, classrooms provide young minds a home to sharpen their skills, develop with their peers, and connect with their friends. But with the necessary shift to remote education, the virtual classroom is a short-term fix to help keep students learning and continue the connections with their teachers and peers.
To help bring some additional excitement and educational opportunities for teachers, Republic FC players and coaches have been popping into digital classrooms since April, providing a change of pace and some unique insight into the lives of a professional athlete. It’s no surprise that with a special guest, the excitement in the video chat changes. And it’s refreshing for students to learn about how players are keeping healthy and fit during these unique times, sharing in some of the challenges and frustrations that they may be experiencing. In just under a month, over 1,600 students from 42 region schools have enjoyed a visit from Republic FC.
But it means so much more to the club and the teachers they are helping. With the players returning to voluntary training, they are adjusting their schedules to squeeze in a classZOOM surprise. The flow of thank you notes from teachers using the sessions to help create activities and exercises, as well as the smiles from countless kids is just another sign of how we’ll get through this together.

Earlier this week, Mrs. VanLiew's class at Parker Whitney ES received a very special surprise during a class Zoom call, as they were joined by @SacRepublicFC player, @shannongomez02! The students had such a great time-- thanks for hanging out with some of our RUSD superstars! pic.twitter.com/suhfai44Pv— Rocklin Unified (@RocklinUSD) May 15, 2020
Big shout out to @SacRepublicFC and player @cam31iwasa for doing a #ClassZoom surprise call with our 5th graders today! Judging by Mark’s reaction, they were pretty impressed by this chance to talk to a professional athlete!#ItTakesARepublic #SoarTogetherLCS pic.twitter.com/HcMMWYfRC9— Laura Andrews (@lala_andrews1) May 5, 2020
