Postmatch Quotes vs. Reno

By Republic FC Communications, 07/20/20, 2:00PM PDT

See what the boys in Old Glory Red had to say following Sunday’s 1-0 win over 1868 FC…

For the first time in Republic FC history, the Indomitable Club downed regional rivals Reno at home in a USL Championship regular season fixture.

The win also happened to keep SRFC’s unbeaten streak on the 2020 campaign alive following a third straight match the boys in Old Glory Red collected at least a point from.

But the good news doesn’t stop there, as Sunday night’s victory also allowed Republic FC to leapfrog Reno in the Division A standings and claim the summit of the standings.

Immediately after the 1-0 win, check out what the boss and the boys in Old Glory Red had to say following the clean sheet against the regional rival at home.

Head Coach Mark Briggs

On if his team responded the way he wanted them to following Monday’s result against Tacoma…
“When we spoke about what I want from tonight’s game earlier in the week, they delivered.”

On his overall impressions from the win over Reno…
“I would have liked them to make it a little bit easier and finish a lot of the chances that we do create and finish off the game a little bit earlier but what better a way to score in the 90th minute, to get a 1-0 lead and show the tenacity, the focus, the energy and the fight that I asked for. So, credit to the players, they turned up tonight and they did everything that I asked of them. So extremely proud of the performance.”

On what the win meant for the team…
“It’s obviously I think for everyone involved in this football club. We talk about the club being a family, and I truly believe that the result wasn’t just for myself and the players, that was for the front office staff. That result was for the people who unfortunately got laid off, there’s a lot of people that are part of this family and that result was for every single one of them.”

Cameron Iwasa

On coming off the bench and scoring the game-winner…
“It’s something we always preach. The coaching staff preaches it, we as a team preach it, that it takes a team. It’s not just 11 guys, it’s our whole squad, even the guys who aren’t suited up. Everybody needs to make a contribution at some point. So, for me, it was just trying to do my job as the attacking player coming off the bench, it’s time to come in and try to be a spark. And fortunately, I was able to do that tonight.”

On how important tonight’s win was given the restructured season…
“These are the most important games, obviously every game, every point is important, but to take them off the teams inside our group and against a team like Reno that year in and year out is towards the top of the Western Conference, and so we assume it’s going to be a tough beat within our region so it’s definitely super important.”

Rafael Jauregui

On his first career appearance with the Republic FC first team…
“Today’s game was a great experience. It made me really happy and just to know that my family was also here on the trail to watch me felt really good. All their cheering they did throughout the game reassured me that I’m here for a reason, I’ve been doing well with the team and of course, the result topped it off and made it even better.”

On how he felt stepping onto the field for the first-time during USL Championship play…
“I was very nervous, but I get nervous with every game, even with Academy games. But once you get your first touch on the field, it sort of goes away and you’re just focused.”
