SACRAMENTO, Calif.– Sacramento Republic FC announced today that Kharlton Belmar has signed a new contract that will add him to the 2021 roster, pending league and federation approval.Per club policy, the terms of the contract were not disclosed.
“Kharlton showed his attacking versatility last season and was especially effective as a striker,” said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant. “His overall game elevated as the year progressed, and he added some important leadership elements to our team. We are excited to see what is in store for him in 2021 and beyond.”
In his debut season with Republic FC, Belmar featured 14 times, with 10 starts – including the club’s Western Conference Quarterfinals playoff match. He led the Indomitable Club with 4 assists in the abbreviated campaign, while adding a goal to the team’s offense. In Week 12, he earned his ninth Team of the Week Selection by delivering three assists – the first in a come-from-behind win, down a man, against Orange County SC, and two against Reno 1868 FC in a 3-3 draw.
Belmar's four assists were a team-best in 2020 and two of which the attacker collected in the first half against Reno 1868 FC on Sep. 12.
Kharlton tallied 43 goals in six seasons. He currently is 18th in all-time USL Championship scorers – and tied for 13th among active players in the 2020 season. Belmar has led two of his former clubs (Portland Timbers 2, Sporting Kansas City II) in goals scored during a single season. As a rookie, he netted a team-best 12 goals, four of which were game-winners and claimed the USL Rookie of the Year honor.
The Virginia Beach, VA, native played collegiately at Virginia Commonwealth University where he scored 18 goals, notched five assists and was named to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team following his junior and senior seasons.
