Sacramento’s newest shot-stopper has donned plenty of sensational saves over his career manning the net

On Friday, the Indomitable Club announced the signing of a reliable veteran goalkeeper to join the ranks for the 2021 USL Championship season – Tomas Gomez.

The netminder previously played for Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC where he competed for the starting job with the eventual 2020 USL Golden Gloves winner – Danny Vitiello – but over his career, Gomez has grabbed the annual league honor in back-to-back seasons in 2016 and 2017. During his lone season in the Steel City, Gomez started eight matches and recorded three clean sheets.

Gomez made eight starts for Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC in 2020 and recorded three clean sheets.

Before the sure-handed shot-stopper takes the pitch between the pipes for Mark Briggs’ men in 2021, there’s no better time than now to relive some of Gomez’s greatest saves over his already impressive professional career.

Confident From Close-Range

While playing for Rochester Rhinos, Gomez came up big for his side in the closing moments of a 2-1 win over Charleston in 2016. In the dying minutes of the match, the hosts carved out a potential game-tying opportunity but the Rhinos GK eliminated any chance of an equalizer when he brushed aside a tricky shot that was taken just a few feet from goal.

Stellar Diving Stop

During Rochester’s 2017 playoff match against Louisville City, Gomez prevented the hosts from doubling its lead with a diving save late in the game. LouCity rifled a sizzling shot from well-outside the box but Sacramento’s newest netminder was on his toes and quick to react with a diving stop.

Strong Hands

As FC Cincinnati pushed forward for a late leveler, it looked as though they may have found their equalizer in stoppage time before a powerful punch by Gomez denied any hopes of a late goal. A right-footed shot from point blank was swatted away by the goalkeeper with some serious power.

Dazzling with a Dive

Gomez is always on his toes in net, knowing a shot on target can appear at any moment. In a 2017 league match, a solid strike appeared to be dipping away from the goalkeeper but an agile Gomez wasted no time sacrificing his body and laying out to his left to deny the opposition a late lead in the 89th minute.
