Throughout August, Republic FC and Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Sacramento at Fire Mountain recognized a community member who has passionately served the region. Four exemplary individuals were selected across dozens of worthy nominations including teachers, first responders, essential employees and front-line responders, and so much more.
For nearly a decade, Dr. David Baker has been at the forefront of the Sacramento Children’s Home mission. For over 150 years, the Sacramento Children’s Home has been committed to helping children by providing high-quality care to the Sacramento region’s most vulnerable children and families. As the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Baker guides the city’s oldest organization to care for at-risk youth and provide service to over 7,000 children and 4,300 families each year.
At halftime of Saturday’s match, Dr. Baker was saluted by Republic FC and officials from Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Sacramento.
The last 18 months have presented new challenges, and Dr. Baker was nominated for his efforts to ensure programming would not pause as a result of the pandemic, but the humble leader attributes it all to the team at the Sacramento Children’s Home.
“I think I would say that this is the representation of the hard work of the 275 plus employees and the commitment that they have always had to this community,” Dr. Baker says, “During the time of the pandemic and to see folks come in every day and making sure the needs of children and families in this community are met despite the hurdles COVID has thrown in front of us is inspiring.”

“Dr. Baker is an example of the Indomitable residents of the region, and the countless champions who make our community better each day. We’re happy to host him and provide him with his own Quail kit as a small token of our appreciation,” said Republic FC Chief Revenue Officer Dustin Vicari. “And thanks to our friends at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Sacramento, Dr. Baker can enjoy a weekend with his wife to relax, recover, and recharge to continue to do tremendous things for our community.”
Since the 1860s, the Sacramento Children’s Home has been a staple in the Sacramento community, helping vulnerable children and families with high-quality care. The home provides crisis support for families, short-term residential care to foster youth who have suffered trauma, and mental health treatment for the region’s most at-risk children and families.
