Earlier this week, Republic FC continued its string of stellar offseason additions, signing former El Paso Locomotive FC midfielder Nick Ross to a contract for 2022. The Scottish veteran comes to Sacramento with a ton of impressive feats under his belt, winning the 2015 Scottish Cup and appearing for Scotland’s U21 national team just after his pro debut.
While he can contribute on all fronts as he did in El Paso, his attacking potential is what will likely bring fans excitement here in the Indomitable City. As Sacramento welcomes Nick, take a look at his top strikes from last season:
Early in a June contest with Indy Eleven, Ross put himself in an excellent position to clean up a cross from the right. With all eyes on the opposite flank, he snuck past the opposing backline unmarked, received a cross from the opposite wing, and punched one through with ease.
Taking on Portland Timbers in 2020, Ross bolted down the left flank to field a well-timed throw-in from his teammate. After beating a defender in the footrace to the ball, he threaded a shot through the legs of the goalkeeper to double his team’s lead.
Among his most impressive scores since coming to the U.S., Ross showed off his field awareness against Orange County this past September. With his teammate under pressure, he slid to the top of the penalty area to provide himself as an option in front of goal. After receiving the ball, he took advantage of the space and drilled one into the top right corner.
