LA Galaxy II came out strong pressuring Republic FC’s defense. A pair of big saves by Republic FC goalkeeper Jake Gleeson helped kick start the offense who responded by pushing against the Galaxy defense. Justin Braun led the attack along with newly acquired forward Mike Fucito.
Republic FC went into halftime with the lead 1-0. Republic FC came out strong in the second half led again by Braun and Fucito. Republic FC’s biggest chance for another goal came in the 77th minute on a free kick by Max Alvarez. Alvarez took the kick from just outside the right corner of the box and curved the ball just over the crossbar.
Galaxy II’s equalizer came in the 82nd minute when forward Chandler Hoffman hit a shot coming off the left side.
“I thought it was a good showing,” said Republic FC forward Mike Fucito. “I think we can play a lot better and I think that is good.”
Republic FC head coach Preki echoed Fucito’s sentiment, “I thought on a better day we walk away with the three points. There is still a lot of room for improvement and I know that as the season goes we will get better and better.”
Republic FC supporter group, The Tower Bridge Battalion had a good showing at the match constantly matching and exceeding the intensity of home supporter groups. “It reminded me of MLS,” said Fucito of the support. “They seem to be very passionate fans and we really appreciated it and we enjoyed having them there.”
Republic FC head back home for training before coming back to the StubHub Center to take on the Chivas USA Reserves on April 7.
