The match is the third of three meetings between Republic FC and the Toros this season. Republic FC won the second matchup 6-2 on Jun. 21 after the two teams battled to a scoreless draw on Jun. 3. The six-goal performance tied a Republic FC record for most goals scored in a match, equaling their total from Aug. 17, 2014, and equaled their largest goal margin of the season.
Republic FC enter the match after suffering a last-second goal by Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC resulting in a 2-2 draw on Saturday, Sept. 2. The match was the second straight 2-2 draw for Republic FC at Papa Murphy’s Park following their draw with Swope Park Rangers on Aug. 23.

Cazarez has had a career season, recording two goals and adding three assists in USL play this season, both career highs; he has also set career highs in appearances (21), starts (20), minutes (1,775), fouls (21) and shots (20).
Forward Matt Wiesenfarth scored Republic FC’s second goal on Saturday, his first of the season and his first professional goal. Wiesenfarth has been an important addition to Republic FC thus far, scoring a goal and adding an assist in five appearances since joining the club on Aug. 11.
Defender James Kiffe made his 100th career all-competition appearance for Republic FC on Saturday, joining Emrah Klimenta as the only players in the club’s history to achieve that feat. Kiffe, originally signed with Republic FC on Aug. 16, 2014, has become a staple in the Republic FC lineup, making an appearance in all but 13 possible matches since joining the club.
Rio Grande Valley FC Toros come into the match on a five-match winless streak, including a 1-0 loss to LA Galaxy II in their most recent match on Sept. 3. Despite having the five-match winless streak, the Toros have only lost twice, drawing three of those matches and four of their last seven.
Forward Kyle Murphy has been a strong player in his second season with the Toros, scoring six goals and adding two assists on the season. His six goals lead the Toros and doubles his total from last season. Murphy was a four-year star at Clemson University before signing with the Toros prior to the 2016 season.
Defender Justin Bilyeu has also been an important player for the Toros, leading the club with six assists on the season. Bilyeu joined the Toros in the offseason after winning a USL championship with New York Red Bulls II.
