The match is the second of two meetings between Republic FC and Real Monarchs this season. The Monarchs won the only other matchup this season, a 2-0 victory on May 13. The Monarchs have always proven to be a tough opponent for Republic FC, going 2-3-3 all-time.

Republic FC enter the match after a tough 3-1 home loss against Oklahoma City Energy FC on Saturday, Sept. 23. Republic FC allowed a first minute goal for the second consecutive match, putting themselves in a hole early.  Despite dominating the possession and outshooting Energy FC, Republic FC were unable to comeback, losing just their third match at home this season.

Emrah Klimenta scored Republic FC’s lone goal against Energy FC in the 59th minute.  Klimenta redirected a James Kiffe corner with his head to pull Republic FC within a goal.  The goal was Klimenta’s third of the season, the most he has scored in a single season since joining Republic FC from an open tryout in 2014.

Kiffe had the assist on Klimenta’s goal, his fifth of the season.  The defender has now tied his career high for assists in a season, tying his total from last season.  He trails only Sammy Ochoa for the club’s lead in assists and is just two assists shy of Rodrigo Lopez and second place on Republic FC’s all-time USL assists list.

Real Monarchs SLC come into the match as the top club in the USL.  Despite being on top of the table for most of the season, the Monarchs enter the match winless in their last four matches.  The Monarchs’ struggles come as a big surprise considering they had lost just two of their previous 20 matches before the start of their current winless streak.

Forward Chandler Hoffman leads a Monarchs attack that has scored the third-most goals in the USL this season.  Hoffman has scored 14 goals and recorded seven assists on the season, putting him in the top five in both categories in the USL.  Hoffman has been a force in the USL since 2014, scoring 48 goals and recording 12 assists in just 90 career USL appearances for Real Monarchs, Louisville City FC, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and LA Galaxy II. Hoffman has two goals and two assists in five career matches against Republic FC.
