Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a USL contract with defender Cole Seiler for the 2018 season, with a club option for the 2019 season, pending league and federation approval.
Seiler joins Republic FC after spending the last two years splitting time between Vancouver Whitecaps FC and WFC2. The defender was the 16th overall pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by Whitecaps FC and made two appearances with the MLS squad. Seiler made 42 appearances with WFC2 over two seasons, including 25 appearances in 2017. The defender was a workhorse, averaging 88 minutes per appearance in his WFC2 career.
The defender had a successful four-year collegiate career at Georgetown. He appeared in 87 matches including 86 starts. Seiler recorded four goals and added an assist as a Hoya. Fellow Republic FC teammate Josh Turnley played with Seiler while at Georgetown, with the pair leading the Hoyas to a National Championship appearance as freshmen and serving as captains their senior year. The Hoyas ranked eighth in the nation for goals against average in 2014 and led the nation in shutout percentage in 2013.
Sacramento Republic FC will begin training camp on Feb. 1 and host their first 2018 friendly on Feb. 25 against LAFC. To view a current roster and learn more visit SacRepublicFC.com.
