Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a USL contract with midfielder Villyan Bijev for the 2018 season, with a club option for the 2019 season, pending league and federation approval.
“Bijev is a natural goal scorer that will add firepower to our attack,” said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant. “He is a player we were really happy to bring back and someone that our fans know very well both from the time he has played with us and with T2.”
Bijev returns to Republic FC after a successful loan stint with the club to close out the 2017 USL season. The midfielder was named USL All-League First Team in 2016 after leading Portland Timbers 2 in goals, as well as leading, and led both his team and the league in assists. In 2017, Bijev also led T2 with seven goals in 23 appearances as of the time of his loan to Republic FC.
Bijev made nine appearances and eight starts during in his time with Republic FC, recording two goals and two assists.
Sacramento Republic FC began training camp on Feb. 1 and will host their first 2018 friendly on Feb. 15 against MLS side Seattle Sounders FC followed by MLS newcomers Los Angeles Football Club on Feb. 25.
