SACRAMENTO, Calif. (March 22, 2018) — Sacramento Republic FC is partnering with Wide Open Walls to host Paint the Park: A Celebration of Sacramento Art on Saturday, April 7, 2018. The event will bring together over 50 local artists, including Maren Conrad, David Garibaldi and Raphael Delgado to beautify the fence scrim around Papa Murphy’s Park prior to Republic FC’s match against Seattle Sounders FC 2. A portion of ticket sales from the match will be donated to Wide Open Walls, an annual mural festival celebrating Sacramento’s street art history.
"We're excited to partner with Wide Open Walls to showcase Sacramento's diverse and growing art community," said Republic FC COO Ben Gumpert. "Paint the Park is an opportunity to use our platform with our fans to celebrate the work of our local artists who play an integral role in growing Sacramento as a world-class region."
Wide Open Walls founder David Sobon said, “SRFC has long been a champion of local artists and by highlighting new artists and new works of art to a vast audience of soccer fans, they are speaking directly to our festival’s mission of art for all.”
Participation in Paint the Park is open to the public. Over 50 spots are available for local artists of any age and experience to take part in painting Papa Murphy’s Park. Republic FC will provide complimentary paint and supplies to all participants. Each selected artist will also receive four tickets for that night’s match to share with friends and family. Interested artists can learn more and submit their application to participate by downloading the form below. The deadline for submissions is April 2nd; no walk-ons will be allowed.
“As an artist and ambassador for Sacramento, I'm excited to be a part of Paint the Park,” said Delgado. “Republic FC is not only a soccer club, but a global platform to showcase and inspire Sacramento’s talented and vibrant art community.”
A panel of judges will select the top three paintings that night and fans will be able to vote for their favorite of the three to determine the winner through an online voting process. All three finalists will receive an exclusive VIP experience at a match with the winner also taking home a $1,000 cash prize.
In addition to the painting of the scrim, Paint the Park will feature art-themed activities for fans, including an art lesson for kids, opportunities to make signs and a chance to win limited edition Republic FC scarves designed in past seasons.
Paint the Park adds to Republic FC’s history of collaborating with the local artist community. For the past three seasons, the club has partnered with Garibaldi, Delgado and Conrad to design exclusive season ticket holder scarves, as well as partnering with emerging artists to design team merchandise.
