NEWS: Republic FC Loan Mitchell Taintor to Toronto FC

The defender will join the Canadian side ahead of their MLS match on Saturday.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (April 20, 2018) — Republic FC announced Friday that the club has loaned defender Mitchell Taintor to Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC. He will be added to their roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

“We are delighted to see Mitchell have this opportunity with Toronto FC’s first team, and we are ready and willing to assist TFC in this way as they prepare for the second leg of the Concacaf Champions League final,” said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant. "We look forward to having him back after this weekend."

Taintor, 23, has appeared and started in five matches for Republic FC this season. Prior to joining Sacramento, Taintor spent two seasons (2016 & 2017) with Toronto FC II. During his time with the Canadian club, he appeared in 47 matches registering three goals and one assist. He was named captain of Toronto FC II ahead of the 2017 season. Taintor also made one appearance for Toronto FC during the 2017 Canadian Championship. He made his debut on May 23, 2017 against Ottawa Fury FC.

The current MLS Cup holders, Toronto FC will be facing Houston Dynamo on Saturday, April 21. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. PT at BBVA Compass Stadium.
