Sitting in fifth place, and just two points back of third, Republic FC will look to hand Real Monarchs SLC their third loss in the past five games, when they welcome the Western Conference leader to Papa Murphy’s Park Saturday evening.

Having accumulated the most wins and points in USL, Real Monarchs SLC have dominated their opponents this season, and only failed to collect points in four of their 17 matches this season. Despite their successful season, Real Monarchs have suffered half of their season losses in just the past four games, falling 3-2 to Swope Park Rangers at Children’s Mercy Park on June 13, and 3-0 against Reno 1868 FC this past Tuesday. Their best stretch of their schedule came April 30 into late May, as SLC went undefeated in five-straight matches, winning four of the set. Entering Saturday’s match, Real Monarchs have collected 37 points on their 12-4-1 line this season.
No Real Monarchs player has amassed more goals than Chandler Hoffman in 2018. The 2017 All-League First Team selection has started in 12 of 16 games played this season, scoring every 173 minutes. All six of his conversions have come within the box, and his nine key passes have led to a pair of assists as well. Hoffman has also proved an accurate connector, converting 84.5 percent of his 220 pass attempts successfully.
After scoring the lone goal against Fresno FC during Week 16, sweeper Andrew Brody earned USL Team of the Week Honors for his performance, which featured two tackles, three interceptions and eight duels, six of which he won. Brody has proved invaluable on the SLC back line this season, leading his team in tackles won (25), placing second in duels won (76) and interceptions (28), while adding 35 clearances along the way. Brody also boasts an 82.2 percent passing accuracy over 360 attempts.
SLC has proved nearly perfect at home in 2018 earning 22 of 24 possible points in eight matches. While pushing out phenomenal results at home, Real Monarchs have incurred four losses on the season, all of them coming away from Zions Bank Stadium. Their 2018 away record sits at 5-4-0 entering Saturday’s match.
Republic FC and Real Monarchs last faced off in late May as a second-half goal from Chandler Hoffman and a penalty kick attempt denied by SLC goalkeeper, Jake Leeker fated Sacramento to a 1-0 shutout loss at Zions Bank Stadium. Handing Republic FC just their third loss of the season was Hoffman, who broke through the 0-0 deadlock in the 68th minute on a calm one-timer, slotting the ball past Cohen for the lead.
Saturday’s match between Republic FC and Real Monarchs SLC will kick off at 8:00 p.m. at Papa Murphy’s Park.
