In just his first season with Republic FC, Josh Cohen has already cemented his status as a fan favorite with spectacular saves week in and week out. Cohen currently holds 72 saves in USL play, second in all of the league, and has eight clean sheets to his name. The 25-year-old goalkeeper was named to the USL Team of the Week for Week 10.
After a stint with MLS side LA Galaxy, Emrah Klimenta returned to Republic FC for his fifth season with the club. Originally signing with the Sacramento club after impressing in the 2014 open tryouts, Klimenta has been a stalwart in the defense ever since. Klimenta lifted the 2014 USL Cup in Republic FC's inaugural year, and currently holds the club records for both all-competition and USL matches started, matches played and minutes played.
After being sidelined with an injury at the start of the season, Hord returned to the pitch for his third season with the club, and holds seven starts in his seven appearances so far. One of Hord's highlights this season includes scoring the first goal in Republic FC's U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 match against LAFC. The former UC Davis defender had his breakout season in 2017, appearing in 29 USL matches (23 starts) for Sacramento and recording an assist.
Another member of the inaugural roster and championship winning team of 2014, Nemanja Vukovic won his place as one of Republic FC's greats with his strong performances throughout his time in the Indomitable City. Along with Klimenta, Vukovic shored up a strong Republic FC backline that went on a nine-match undefeated streak in USL play in 2014, recorded nine shutouts in regular season play, and a shutout in the championship match.
James Kiffe rounds out the fan all-time defenders list. Kiffe was also a part of the 2014 roster that captured that year's USL Cup, joining the club towards the end of the season. The defender held the post as left back until his departure at the end of 2017. Kiffe is second only to Klimenta in USL minutes and matches played and still holds the record for consecutive starts in USL play for the club.
Octavio Guzman is another Republic FC original and well-remembered by Republic FC fans for his heroics in the 2014 USL Cup. Guzman scored the opening goal in championship match against Harrisburg City Islanders, and is still in the top five all-time records for matches played and matches started.
In Republic FC's short history, Rodrigo Lopez stands out as one of the most popular players in club history, and his name is synonymous with the Miracle at Bonney. After Republic FC went down 0-2 at halftime against LA Galaxy II in the semifinals of the 2014 USL Cup, Lopez scored a hat trick, including a stunning free kick goal that clinched the win for Republic FC. Lopez is currently tied with Cameron Iwasa for the Republic FC all-competition goals record at 26, and holds the record for most all-time assists, and remains in the top five for several other club all-competition and USL records.
Current Republic FC captain Jeremy Hall first arrived in the California capital on loan from Tampa Bay Rowdies towards the end of the 2016 season. He signed on with the club ahead of the 2017 season and has been a mainstay in the starting XI since then. A solid distributer in the midfield, Hall holds a 90 percent passing rate and has two assists to his name, along with a match-winning goal, in the 2018 season.
Having joined as a loan player at the end of the 2017 season, Villyan Bijev quickly won the hearts of Republic FC fans with his creative runs and distribution. Bijev has made several crucial plays since joining Republic FC and is having a standout season in 2018, including three match-winning goals in USL play and a goal against LAFC in the U.S. Open Cup.
Thommy Stewart is another member of the inaugural season roster that clinched the 2014 USL Cup. A threat up top, Stewart still holds the record for most all-time hat tricks with two, and is one of only two players to ever score a hat trick in regular season USL play. Stewart left the club with 23 all-time goals and 15 in USL play, just behind Lopez and Cameron Iwasa.
Returning to Republic FC after a year with MLS side Sporting Kansas City, Cameron Iwasa picked up right where he left off. Iwasa departed in 2016 with the club record for most goals scored in a single season (12), breaking the previous record held by Stewart. The forward is on pace to break that record once more this season with 10 goals on the season, having already broken the club's all-time USL goals scored record previously held by Rodrigo Lopez. Iwasa is also just one goal away from breaking the all-competition record of 26, currently tied with Lopez.
