Unbeaten in their past five matches, Republic FC returns to Papa Murphy’s Park Saturday night to take on Rio Grande Valley FC.
Prior to the match, reacquaint yourself with the RGVFC Toros.
After a 0-3-2 start to the season, RGVFC nabbed their first victory of 2018 with a 2-0 result over Orange County SC before pulling together a string of five consecutive draws. Three straight losses against Real Monarchs SLC, Portland Timbers 2 and OKC Energy then prefaced a six-game unbeaten streak, before taking a 1-0 loss to Las Vegas Lights Saturday night at Cashman Field.
All three of Rio Grande Valley FC’s wins have come at HEB-Park this season where they’ve racked up a 3-1-8 record good for 17 points. The team has earned three points on the road but have yet to snag a victory in an away match, playing to a record of 0-6-3.
Twenty-three-year-old Aldo Quintanilla has led RGVFC on the scoring forefront this season, converting four of his thirteen shots on target in his 1202 minutes played thus far. His 23 chances created are only second on the team to Todd Wharton’s 41 and has accumulated three assists this season, marking a club high.
Sacramento Republic FC will look to extend their all-time undefeated record against RGV in USL play on Saturday, which they preserved in their last meeting on March 31. Facing a 2-0 deficit in the closing minutes of the game, Cameron Iwasa headed a ball home before a dangerous stoppage-time play in front of the net begot an own goal by RGV defender Conor Donovan, gifting the Indomitable Club a road point.
Saturday’s match between Republic FC and Rio Grande Valley will kick off at 8:00 p.m. at Papa Murphy’s Park.
