Goalkeeper Josh Cohen has won the USL Save of the Week for Week 24 with his spectacular save against Reno 1868 FC. The keeper made a stoppage time save to deny Reno's Zach Carroll from putting away his shot in the upper right hand corner. The save clinched a 2-1 win over Reno 1868 FC, the first USL win for Republic FC over their Nevada rivals.
Cohen currently has 90 saves to his name this season, the second-highest number of saves in the league, with Tulsa's Fabian Cerda beating him out with just five more saves. Since joining Republic FC, Cohen has become a fan-favorite in Sacramento, making crucial saves week in and week out to help the boys in red stay in the top half of the Western Conference standings. Earlier this year, Cohen's efforts were recognized by the club's fan base, with the Sunnyvale native being voted into the Republic FC All-Time Fan XI in just his first year with Sacramento.
Save of the Week-Week 24 Complete Voting Results via USL Soccer: Cohen’s save earned 51 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. San Antonio FC’s Diego Restrepo took second on 28 percent for his remarkable double-save on Phoenix Rising FC midfielder Devin Vega last Wednesday night, while fellow SAFC goalkeeper Matt Cardone finished third on 10 percent for his reflex stop to keep out a chance for the Swope Park Rangers’ Kharlton Belmar last Saturday night.
