Forward Christian Eissele has been named to the USL Team of the Week for Week 26. This is Eissele's first time receiving league honors this season.
Coming on as a sub in the 34th minute for Adam Moffat, Eissele made the most of his minutes on the pitch and played a crucial role in Republic FC's 3-0 win over Seattle Sounders FC 2. In the 58th minute, Villyan Bijev made a deep run up the left flank and squared a pass for an oncoming Eissele to just tap the ball into the net. Eissele would bag his brace in the 64th through a penalty kick after he was brought down in the box Tony Alfaro.
Eissele joined Republic FC in January of this year, after spending the past five years playing in Scandinavia, in the Finnish and Swedish leagues. His goals against S2 were numbers four and five this season in USL play. In his 920 USL minutes played this season, the 26-year-old forward has also recorded an assist.
Republic FC have a bye week this upcoming weekend and will return to action on Sept. 19 when they travel Oklahoma to face Tulsa Roughnecks FC. Kickoff is 5 p.m.
