Republic FC take on Las Vegas Lights FC in their final home game of the regular season on Saturday, October 13. Kickoff at Papa Murphy’s Park is set for 7:30 p.m. and the match will be broadcast live on KQCA My58, Estrella TV (Spanish) and ESPN+.
Although Republic FC has already clinched a spot in the postseason, Saturday’s match can still have playoffs implications for the club. Sacramento could potentially climb to second place in the Western Conference standings if they beat Lights FC and Phoenix Rising FC drops points in their respective match.
Sacramento (18-7-8, 62 points) enter the match after defeating LA Galaxy II 2-1 on the road last Saturday. Keven Aleman struck twice in the first half to help Republic FC extend their unbeaten streak to seven games. The club has only conceded goals twice in that span.
Las Vegas Lights FC (8-18-7, 31 points) arrive at Papa Murphy’s Park for the final match of their inaugural season. Already eliminated from playoffs contention, Lights FC surprised many with a midweek thrashing of second-placed Phoenix Rising FC. Their 5-2 win over Phoenix halted an 11-game winless streak for the Nevadan club.
Republic FC and Lights FC have only squared off once in their history, a 1-1 draw back in April of this year.
Republic FC's newest signing, Matthew Harding, takes a shot during training with the first team on Thursday, October 11, 2018.
Fans will want to arrive early to experience what will be a very special night for the club.
Sign the Tifo
With Saturday’s match being Republic FC’s final home game of the regular season, the club will be continuing its annual tradition of dedicating a tifo to the fans. Season ticket members who arrive between 6:00 -6:30 p.m. will have the opportunity to etch their name into club history by signing the tifo that will be presented later that night.
Pack the House for Matthew
Earlier this week, Republic FC signed 15-year-old Matthew Harding to a one-game contract to fulfill his wish of becoming a Republic FC player. Harding, who battles a rare blood cancer that can create tumors, will be part of the club’s starting XI on Saturday and play against Las Vegas.
SRFC midfielder Adam Moffat has been ruled out for 10 weeks after suffering a torn MCL on his right knee during the club’s match against Seattle Sounders FC 2 on September 8th. He joins Jaime Villarreal on the injury list, who sustained a right foot injury against LA Galaxy II on August 18th. Villarreal underwent successful surgery on his foot and will miss the rest of the regular season.
Midfielder Jeremy Hall and defender Emrah Klimenta will also both miss Saturday’s match as they have been called up to their respective national teams. Defender Cole Seiler also joins the list of absentees as he will be serving a one-match suspension after receiving a red card in Republic FC’s last match.
