Republic FC announced today a new partnership with The PG&E Corporation Foundation to invest and inspire the next generation of innovators. Applications are open now for the Next Gen STEM Scholarship, a $2,000 grant for a local deserving student who is pursuing a college degree in the field of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
The scholarship is the latest addition to the Republic FC Rising Scholars program powered by The PG&E Corporation Foundation. It has been introduced to the club’s annual scholarships to expand access to STEM education and recognize students who demonstrate creativity, innovation, and academic excellence through hands-on learning.
Applicants must be a high school senior who intends to enroll in a four-year college or university, or a California Community College, or a student currently enrolled at a California community college or university enrolled in a minimum of six units. Additionally, they must live in the six-county Sacramento region. Applications must be submitted by Friday, August 28 11:59 p.m. at SacRepublicFC.com/Scholarship.
The winner will be recognized with a special on-field recognition and a VIP matchday experience at Heart Health Park on September 12.
The Next Gen STEM Scholarship is paired with Republic FC KickStart STEM, a new program that gives students the opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in the classroom and beyond. Officially kicking off at the start of the upcoming school year, nearly 100 middle school students from multiple school districts will participate.
Students will develop original STEM research projects and apply learning concepts to real-world challenges during a field trip to Republic FC’s home match on September 12. Utilizing various resources and methodologies, students will collect data to test their ideas. After the match, students will present their projects to be reviewed by a judging panel consisting of representatives from Republic FC and The PG&E Corporation Foundation and the top project from each class will be recognized at the Republic FC match on October 24.
