Community Hero Presented by AARP
Now through July 31, fans and community members can nominate a Community Hero by sharing the story of someone who is making a difference in the community and whose work, project, service, or volunteer efforts serve as an example of the Indomitable spirit of our region. Republic FC and AARP Sacramento are eager to learn about the meaningful contributions individuals have made, whether through volunteering to aid a group in need or offering support to an individual or organization.
The winner will be selected by a joint panel from Republic FC and AARP Sacramento. The club will honor the winner on the pitch at Heart Health Park during the club’s October 14th home match, as well as with a special VIP match day experience and other Republic FC team gear. The club will also highlight the Community Hero’s work with content on its website and social channels.
Community Hero Criteria
- Individuals must reside in one of the following counties: Sacramento, Yolo, Solano, Placer, El Dorado, San Joaquin, Amador, Calavares, or Sutter County.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
Nomination Criteria
- Nominations open on July 1 and close on July 31.
- Winner will be selected by a joint panel and receive on-field recognition, VIP seats, and more at Republic FC’s October 14th match.
- Nominated heroes may be contacted to provide additional information and for verification.
- Nominees do not have to be an AARP member to enter.

2022 Community Hero
Dwight Roberts, chosen by a collaborative committee comprising members from Republic FC and AARP Sacramento, emerged as the recipient of the esteemed 2022 AARP Community Hero accolade. Demonstrating unwavering dedication, Roberts has selflessly acted as a mentor for young men through his golf initiatives. Each summer, he organizes a complimentary camp at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex, catering specifically to at-risk African American youth in the area. Roberts not only passes on golf skills to those eager to learn the sport but also fulfills a pivotal role as a compassionate confidant for young individuals grappling with various challenges, offering guidance in the absence of a paternal figure.
Roberts was honored by the club at the pitch during the match against San Diego Loyal SC.
