Republic FC’s annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration kicked off on September 15, and with the support of Indomitable partners SMUD and the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the club will highlight elements of Hispanic and Latino culture throughout the region. The annual tradition includes incorporating the rich and vibrant cultural connection on gameday, through the club’s platforms, and supporting the next generation of storytellers with a $1,000 scholarship. On Wednesday, September 28, Republic FC will host Noche Latina, powered by SMUD, where elements on and off the field will highlight Sacramento’s dynamic Hispanic community.
Throughout the next two weeks, the Indomitable Club will accept applications for the 3rd annual El Futuro Scholarship, in conjunction with the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. One qualified deserving student of Hispanic heritage will receive a $1,000 scholarship and will receive an on-field recognition during the club’s September 28 Noche Latina match at Heart Health Park.
“One of our Club’s values that we hold most precious is celebrating diversity – every single day,” said Republic FC Vice President of Community Investment Scott Moak. “The fact that when the calendar turns to September and we get to shine the light a little brighter on the Hispanic and LatinX community is tremendously special. They have and always will be an essential part of this club. We all love soccer for so many reasons – one of them is that it has a way of bringing together people from all cultures and ethnicities – both on and off the field. We are so pleased that, alongside our community partners SMUD and the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, we get to spend the next month fiercely highlighting our region’s diversity and amplifying our commitment to fostering a unified community.”
“SACHCC is dedicated to supporting students seeking a higher education, which helps to develop a diverse and thriving workforce,” said Cathy Rodriguez Aguirre, SACHCC President and CEO. “We are glad to partner with Republic FC for the third year to invest in our region’s students and strengthen our community.”
Applicants must be currently enrolled at an eligible high school or in a minimum of six units at a California Community College, and intend to enroll in a four-year college or university, or a California Community College (minimum 12 units). Additionally, they must be of Hispanic origin and live in the Sacramento Six-County Regional area – Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba counties. Applications close at 5:00 p.m. PT on Friday, Sept. 23.
Republic FC will also highlight the stories of some of its Hispanic players and staff throughout the month. Continuing the “Cultura” series launched last year, written features will focus on how these individuals stay connected to their Hispanic culture while living in Sacramento. Spanish listeners can tune into The Breakaway en Español – a special edition of the club’s podcast The Breakaway – that will be produced entirely in Spanish featuring Republic FC’s Spanish broadcasting duo Armando Botello and Milton Moreno.
