SACRAMENTO, Calif.  — Sacramento Republic FC announced today it has reached an agreement with established goal-scorer Kharlton Belmar. Terms of the new deal were not disclosed.

The 27-year-old attacker, who can play on either flank or as a striker with tremendous pace, brings Major League Soccer experience, leadership and creativity with the ball in the offensive third.  

Over his five seasons, Belmar has become a decorated professional who has collected a slew of awards including the USL Rookie of the Year honor in 2015, the 2018 USL Player of the Month for March, twice has he earned USL Player of the Week honors (Week 1 – 2018, Week 6 – 2015), and he’s been selected to the USL Team of the Week a total of eight times since 2015. He’s also been nominated for the USL Goal of the Week on two separate occasions.

“Kharlton is a big acquisition for us. He brings a dynamic element to our attack and adds both power and pace to our front line,” said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant. “Kharlton is entering his prime and will be an important veteran presence in our locker room with his five years of MLS and USL experience.”

Belmar has led two of the clubs he previously represented in goals scored during a single season. As a rookie, he netted a team-best 12 goals, four of which were game-winners. The proven playmaker also has USL Championship playoff experience, culminating with a trip to the final in 2017.  

Belmar joins Republic FC following a season with Nashville SC where he made 33 appearances, 20 as starts. Last season in the Music City, he contributed three goals and three assists, elevating his career goal-scoring tally in USL play to 43. Belmar was originally drafted by the Portland Timbers in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft with the 34th overall pick before he signed with Portland Timbers 2. In two seasons with T2, Belmar made 53 appearances (41 starts), scoring 15 goals and contributing six assists. 

Belmar signed with Swope Park Rangers (recently rebranded to Sporting Kansas City II) in 2017 where he logged minutes between the USL-side and Major League Soccer’s Sporting Kansas City, who offered him an MLS contract that September. He made five appearances for Sporting Kansas City over the 2017 and 2018 seasons but spent the majority of his KC career with SKCII where he is the current all-time leading goal scorer (25). During the 2018 campaign, Belmar bagged seven goals in his first six matches.

The Virginia Beach, VA, native played collegiately at Virginia Commonwealth University where he scored 18 goals, notched five assists and was named to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team following his junior and senior seasons.

Keinan made 24 appearances for the boys in Old Glory Red in 2019, 23 of which were starts, logging over 1,900 minutes of United Soccer League Championship action. The 35-year-old provided two assists in league play, one of which was during the thick of Republic FC’s heated playoff push on the road to Tulsa Roughnecks FC. Keinan fired a longball that found Villyan Bijev who buried his shot to give the Indomitable Club the early 1-0 lead en route to a crucial 3-2 win. 

Prior to signing with Sacramento, Keinan spent one season with FC Cincinnati where he captained the club to their first regular season USL title. The veteran center back made 23 appearances and scored a pair of goals as Cincinnati’s historic season set USL regular-season records for most points (77), wins (23) and consecutive games without a loss (all three records were broken by Phoenix in 2019).  

Before Keinan joined Cincinnati, the Israeli international’s decorated career included a stint in the English Premier League following eight years in the Israeli Premier League with Maccabi Haifa. With Maccabi Haifa, the defender won two league championships and competed in the Champions League and the UEFA Cup. 

Keinan joined the English Premier League’s newly promoted Blackpool FC in 2010, where he spent one season with the seaside English club. After a season in Lancashire, the defender joined EFL Championship side Cardiff City in Wales before loan spells with Crystal Palace and Bristol City. 

Prior to the 2012-2013 season, Keinan returned to Macabbi Haifa where he spent the next six seasons and lifted the Israel State Cup in 2015. During his second stint in his home county, the defender competed in the Europa League. 

Born in Rosh HaNikra, Israel, Keinan has earned 27 international caps with the Israel Men’s National Team, including 10 World Cup Qualifiers and eight UEFA Qualifiers.

“Drew’s tenacity and selfless play made him a crucial part of our central midfield,” said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant. “He was the first player to conquer the unbeatable beep test last preseason, so we have a team of engineers redesigning the legendary fitness test this offseason to give Drew a challenge.”

This past season, Skundrich made 32 appearances in league play, 27 as starts, and tallied a total of 2,312 minutes. He also added one goal and four assists on the season, with one assist occurring in the play-in game of the 2019 United Soccer League Championship playoff match against New Mexico United. Deep into first half injury time, Skundrich set up Keven Aleman’s equalizer before Sacramento went on to win the match, 2-1, and advance to the Western Conference Quarterfinals. 

During Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play this season, Skundrich appeared in three matches, started two and contributed one goal and an assist. His lone assist was a memorable one, as it set up Sam Werner’s game-winning goal against Reno 1868 FC in the Second Round of the competition that Sacramento went on to win over their regional rivals, 1-0. 

The 24-year-old joined Republic FC after a season with Bethlehem Steel FC where he made 28 appearances, 15 as starts, and contributed two goals and three assists. 

Before joining the Pennsylvanian club, Skundrich was an integral part of the Stanford University team that won three straight NCAA championships from 2015-2017. During his collegiate career, the midfielder netted nine goals, tallied 12 assists and served as co-captain his junior and senior seasons. Skundrich also earned All-PAC 12 First Team and All-PAC 12 Second Team honors during his time as a Stanford Cardinal. 

During the summer of 2016, he made eight appearances with former USL League Two side Burlingame Dragons FC. 

After graduating, he was taken 40thoverall of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by the LA Galaxy but did not sign with the Major League Soccer side. Skundrich proceeded to sign with Steel FC prior to the 2018 campaign, his first professional contract.

In his second full season with Sacramento, the former Liverpool FC playmaker made 29 appearances in league play (31 in all competitions), 15 of which he started. Bijev also contributed one goal and three assists during the 2019 United Soccer League Championship campaign.

The 26-year-old originally joined Republic FC midway through the 2017 season while on loan from Portland Timbers 2 before signing a permanent deal in 2018. During the 2018 campaign, the midfielder made 36 appearances across all competitions, contributing eight goals and five assists (both of which were second-best on the team). He also led the team in chances created with 56. 

Before his time with the Indomitable Club, Bijev spent one-and-a-half seasons with T2 where he earned USL All-League First Team honors in 2016 after leading his team in goals, as well as leading both his team and the entire league in assists. “Shannon has been excellent for us the past two seasons,” said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant. “He takes his defending personally, and we look forward to getting a healthy Shannon Gomez back on the field next season.”

Despite missing the last three months of the 2019 season, Gomez still finished sixth on the team in clearances (37) and seventh in tackles won (25). 

The 23-year-old had successful surgery in August to repair a meniscus and torn ACL in his right knee that he sustained during the second half of the regular season. Prior to the injury, the defender led the entire team in minutes played (1,495) and made 18 appearances in league play this season (21 in all competitions), 17 of which were starts. 

In 2018, the defender was a mainstay in the Republic FC back line where he made 34 appearances, 33 as starts. Gomez contributed a goal and an assist as he helped to lead the Sacramento defense to the best defensive record in the Western Conference.  

The fullback arrived in Sacramento prior to the 2018 season after playing two seasons in Major League Soccer with New York City FC. Gomez originally joined NYCFC on loan from W Connection FC, a first division club in Trinidad and Tobago. While under contract with the MLS-club, Gomez was loaned out to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds where he made 10 appearances and tallied an assist. 

Gomez has also represented his national team, having been capped by the Trinidad and Tobago Under-20 National Team. He’s led the Soca Warriors to the 2014 Caribbean title and has been called up to the Trinidad and Tobago Men’s National Team three times.

The Bozeman, Montana, native’s 35 appearances in league play this season were second-most on the team, as the winger compiled a total of 2,420 minutes during his first season with the boys in Old Glory Red. Werner tallied seven goals and five assists in league play while contributing another two goals and one assist across three Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches, including an 83rd minute strike in the Second Round that sunk regional rivals Reno 1868 FC as Sacramento marched on to the Third Round following the 1-0 win. 

The former Stanford Cardinal was very active on the offensive front and finished the season with 54 chances created. His 230 crosses during league play was third-most in the entire United Soccer League Championship. The 24-year-old’s most memorable moment occurred against New Mexico United in the play-in game of the 2019 USL Championship playoffs where Werner’s pinpoint cross from near midfield was perfectly placed for Thomas Enevoldsen to deliver a strike that beat the visiting goalkeeper and secured the Indomitable Club’s spot in the Western Conference Quarterfinals.

McCrary made 29 appearances in league play this season (32 in all competitions), all of which were starts, and contributed two assists. His pair of assists occurred in consecutive matches, one of which being the game-winner when he set up Dariusz Formella’s first half goal against Austin Bold FC in mid-September for a 2-1 win in the Lone Star State. 

Defensively, McCrary led the entire team in interceptions (43), tackles (71) and tackles won (39) during league play this season. 

The 26-year-old fullback, who has experience playing on either wing, signed with the Indomitable Club this past March after spending 2018 in Major League Soccer with Seattle Sounders FC. McCrary made 20 appearances for Seattle across all competitions, including the Concacaf Champions League. 

McCrary was born in Roswell, Georgia and later attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he helped to guide the Tar Heels to an NCAA College Cup during his freshman campaign. He was drafted by the New England Revolution with the 10th overall selection in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft where he made two Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup appearances for the club.

The 26-year-old fullback, who has experience playing on either wing, signed with the Indomitable Club this past March after spending 2018 in Major League Soccer with Seattle Sounders FC. McCrary made 20 appearances for Seattle across all competitions, including the Concacaf Champions League. 

McCrary was born in Roswell, Georgia and later attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he helped to guide the Tar Heels to an NCAA College Cup during his freshman campaign. He was drafted by the New England Revolution with the 10th overall selection in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft where he made two Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup appearances for the club.
