Republic FC Opens Kiosk at Arden Fair Mall

Sacramento Republic FC has opened a kiosk at Arden Fair Mall offering a wide selection of the team's indomitable gear.

Located next to Madewell and across from Banana Republic on the first floor of the mall, the new pop-up store will be open during the holiday season and through the 2019 USL season.

Recap: Republic FC 1-2 Swope Park Rangers

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (October 20, 2018) — Republic FC scored first but fell 2-1 to visiting Swope Park Rangers in the Western Conference Quarterfinals of the ULS Cup Playoffs.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (October 20, 2018) — Republic FC scored first but fell 2-1 to visiting Swope Park Rangers in the Western Conference Quarterfinals of the ULS Cup Playoffs.

Sacramento enjoyed a dream start thanks to Shannon Gomez and Villyan Bijev. In the 16th minute, Gomez charged up the left wing and beat his man to the ball at the touchline before whipping a last-ditch cross into the box. A poor clearance from the Swope Park defense gave Bijev a chance to take the ball down and rip a right-footed shot past Rangers keeper Eric Dick and into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

The visitors would equalize off of a corner kick in the 27th minute. Wan Kuzain pounced on a loose ball and found space inside the box. Gomez marked him, but Kuzain curled his shot just inside the near post to beat Josh Cohen and level the score.

Hadji Barry scored the go-ahead goal just a few minutes later after being left alone at the top of the box on a counter attack. Rassambek Akhmatov slid a ball to Barry’s feet from the wing as the striker sent his one-timed effort past a diving attempt from Cohen and make it 2-1 after 31 minutes.  

Jure Matjasic had the best of what seemed like a multitude of chances for the home side in the second half. In the 50th minute, the Slovenian was able to cut back in on an attack from the left side and curled a right-footed shot past the Swope keeper. To his misfortune, the shot struck the near post and went out of play.

Despite enjoying a large portion of possession and chances in the second half, Republic FC could not find the equalizer. Swope Park will now advance to a Second-Round matchup with Phoenix Rising FC next week. Republic FC’s season ends for a second consecutive year with a loss to Swope Park Rangers.

Going into Sunday, Saint Louis FC were the seventh seed in the West, but Swope Park Rangers' win over LA Galaxy II today catapulted them from ninth to seventh in the standings.

Sacramento will host the Midwestern club for the second time this season, after previously defeating the Rangers 3-1 on October 3rd. That match mirrored the result from their first encounter this year when Republic FC beat Swope Park on the road by an identical score.

Republic FC controlled the first half as they had a couple of solid chances to capitalize on. Villyan Bijev was a menace on both wings, while Luis Espino and Jure Matjasic kept the visiting defense under constant pressure. Lights FC keeper Thomas Olsen, who spent time with Sacramento on loan earlier this season, made a couple of stops to keep the match scoreless going into halftime.

Cameron Iwasa added to his record-setting mark in the 55th minute when he rocketed his 17th goal of the season past Olsen. Elliott Hord sent a cross into the box for Christian Eissele who snapped down a header into Iwasa’s path. The Sacramento native beat Olsen to the ball and rifled a right-footed shot off the bottom of the crossbar and into the back of the net.

Josh Cohen and Republic FC’s defense recorded yet another shutout in the 1-0 victory over Vegas. Cohen only had to make one save, but he was decisive on some late long balls in the air from Las Vegas and secured his 11th clean sheet of the season. Mitchell Taintor and Justin Schmidt patrolled the back line well and cleaned up any attack Vegas threw at them.

The win brought the club another step closer securing a top-four finish that would earn it home-field advantage in the 2018 USL Playoffs.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (October 3, 2018) — Sacramento Republic FC struck twice in the second half to defeat Swope Park Rangers 3-1 at Papa Murphy’s Park on Wednesday night. The win brought the club another step closer securing a top-four finish that would earn it home-field advantage in the 2018 USL Playoffs.

Republic FC opened the scoring in the 17th minute through midfielder Villyan Bijev. Cameron Iwasa filtered a ball to Bijev in the box who slid the ball between two defenders and past Swope Park goalkeeper Adrian Zendejas.

Rangers responded in the 31st minute after Kharlton Belmar had a shot saved by Josh Cohen but the rebound fell to Tyler Blackwood. The former Republic FC player simply had to tap the ball into the open net to equalize for the visitors .

Sacramento found the go-ahead goal in the 57th minute when Iwasa rose to head a perfectly placed cross from Luis Espino past the Rangers keeper. The goal was Iwasa’s 16th of the season and continues to add to his record-breaking club tally. Rangers responded in the 31st minute after Kharlton Belmar had a shot saved by Josh Cohen but the rebound fell to Tyler Blackwood. The former Republic FC player simply had to tap the ball into the open net to equalize for the visitors .

Sacramento found the go-ahead goal in the 57th minute when Iwasa rose to head a perfectly placed cross from Luis Espino past the Rangers keeper. The goal was Iwasa’s 16th of the season and continues to add to his record-breaking club tally. He joins Jaime Villarreal on the injury list, who sustained a right foot injury against LA Galaxy II on August 18th. Villarreal underwent successful surgery on his foot and will miss the rest of the regular season.

CHICAGO, Ill. (September 28, 2018) — Sacramento Republic FC forward Mario Penagos has been called up to the U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team that will head to Mexico City to compete in the 2018 Four Nations Tournament  from September 30 to October 8.

This group of players is nine months into its two-year cycle as the U-17 MNT and will transition to the U-19 team in 2020. The roster forms the core of players who will compete at the 2019 Concacaf U-17 Championship for a regional title and berth to the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Following a string of results over the weekend, the point earned guarantees Republic FC a top-eight finish in the Western Conference with four games remaining in the regular season.

Energy FC should have scored in the 33rd minute, but Jose Barril skied his shot over the crossbar after maneuvering between two defenders in the Sacramento box.

SRFC goalkeeper Josh Cohen continued his streak of game-saving stops with another critical save in the 67th minute. Bustos was left unmarked inside the box as he received a low cross and struck it first-time towards the near post. Cohen read the strike perfectly to get down and block it out of play.

Former Republic FC forward Adam Jahn also had an opportunity at goal with less than a quarter-hour remaining. Jahn, who was part of Sacramento’s 2014 USL Championship team, tried a shot from 25 yards out, but pulled it just wide of Cohen’s near post.

Cohen was called into action once more in stoppage time, making a point-blank save on Deshorn Brown to preserve the clean sheet.
