The Darek Formella to Iwasa connection turned into two early quality chances for the Indomitable Club within the first 17 minutes. Iwasa finished the night with a game-high eight shots, including a game-high four in the first half.
“We're pleased with the result,” head coach Mark Briggs said, “but for me, I'm more pleased with the collective performance. I felt tonight the collective performance from everybody, with and without the ball, was the best it's been this year. And I think you saw the amount of chances we created in the first half and then continued to create in the second half. I’m just really pleased with the collective performance of everybody."
Despite going down a goal in the 20th minute, the Indomitable Club’s offensive pursuit would not waver.
A higher midfield and aggressive wing play from the opening whistle allowed the Boys in Old Glory Red to control possession in the first 45 minutes with a 13-1 shot advantage. Duke Lacroix made his 100th USL appearance and wore the Captain’s armband on Saturday, going for goal early in the ninth minute to record Republic FC’s first of 13 first-half shots.
SRFC’s shot tally reached 10 thanks to five attempts at Las Vegas in a seven-minute span late in the half, culminating with a right footed attempt from Kharlton Belmar in the 38th minute.
The persistence of the Formella-Iwasa tandem paid off shortly after the resumption of play, as Iwasa padded his all-time goals record with an equalizer from Formella to the top corner in the 48th minute. It was Formella’s third assist of the year and Iwasa’s first goal since June 2 against Oakland Roots SC.
Refreshing faces made their ways onto the pitch in the 2-1 win, including Maalique Foster, Rafael Jauregui and Jaime Villarreal. Foster and Villarreal returned from the injury list, while Jauregui recorded his third appearance of the season.
Villarreal was part of a busy and impressive midfield unit with Luis Felipe and Mario Penagos, whose high positioning from the opening whistle allowed for Republic FC to control the pace and possession of the game from whistle to whistle.
Republic FC continued creating chances that ended with the ball in the box, replicating the first half’s late surge of shots with five shots in three minutes. Three of the five shots in the second-half push occurred within the penalty area, with Belmar accounting for two of the three.
Iwasa later cemented the Indomitable Club’s second consecutive home brace with a chip to the back of the net in the 73rd minute from Felipe. With career goal number 54 and the game winner, the Sacramento native moves into eighth on the USL Championship all-time scoring list.
With three more points in hand, the Boys in Old Glory Red face a tall task next Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Phoenix Rising FC on ESPN+.

Republic FC Head Coach Mark Briggs
On training for the team’s third match in 10 days…
“Training has been good. Today was sharp, which is good. But a lot of it's about the recovery from Wednesday night and making sure we're as healthy as we can be going into tomorrow.”
On the team’s growth…
“Picking up results creates confidence. It creates a belief in what we can do. But now we have to build on what we've accomplished, turn the screw and go to the next level.”
On Tomas Gomez’ recent performance…
“It’s great that he's making the save, but that's his job. We all need to do our jobs in order to get results. So, it’s great that Tomas is making those saves in big moments, which he's done all year. Credit for him, and that's why he's the current number one.”

On grabbing a point in Oakland…
“Anytime we step on the field, we want to get three points no matter who the opponent is. With it being a rival and especially with all the fans that made the trek out to Oakland, we're really appreciative of that. To have a clean sheet and a draw on the road is something positive we can take from the game. I'm going to take that and bring that home with us to put another result together for our fans.”
On Saturday being his 100th USL appearance…
“It’s nice to hit the century mark. It's exciting. I'm pleased with any opportunity I have to play. I know I'm very fortunate to be in this position, to be in a great club, to be in front of fans and to keep striving to be better every single day. Although it's 100, I hope I can treat it like it's day one and I can bring the same sort of energy that I've brought in my entire career to try to do something special on the field every time I step on”

Kohne is described as ‘an angel’ by her clients with whom she works with on a weekly basis to not only help the children but also show parents how to best support their children.
“I am humbled everyday by the parents that I feel are rockstars. They are the ones truly doing this on the day-to-day,” Kohne says. “That is what is so driving to me . The parents are the rockstars and I work with a community that drives and dreams for the children in the community.”
During COVID, Kohne’s commitment was heightened as she transitioned to weekly video calls with families and dropped off special toys and equipment for children to use.

Republic FC Honors First Cardiac Kid Carter Andrews and Family
During Republic FC’s first-ever Heart Health Night on Saturday, the club will honor 1-year-old Carter as its first Cardiac Kid. The program – one of many initiatives being rolled out by the club following the announcement to rename its stadium Heart Health Park – aims to highlight the stories of young people and their families who are affected by and trying to make a difference in the world of heart health.
At Saturday’s match, the Andrews Family will be treated to the VIP experience at Heart Health Park, and call on fans to donate to the Children’s Heart Foundation. Republic FC has pledged to match up to $1,000 in donations.

For Carter and his mom Laura, Heart Health isn’t just the name of a stadium, it’s an everyday challenge. Two days after Carter was born, his pediatrician heard a heart murmur, and three days later the family learned that Carter has two heart defects – Atrial Septal Defect and Ventricular Septal Defect. He is currently undergoing treatment to try to repair the defects naturally, but the possibility of heart surgery is not off the table.

While they wait to figure out their next steps, Carter’s family is taking action by participating in the 2021 Children’s Heart Foundation Congenital Heart Walk. The event – coming up this Sunday – is focused on raising money to fund research on congenital heart defects, which, according to the American Heart Association, affect at least eight out of every 1,000 infants born each year. They are also the leading cause of birth defect-related mortality.
Join in Republic FC in supporting Carter’s Crew in making a lasting impact in the lives of kids like Carter and their families who are affected by congenital heart defects. Donate or join the walk at bit.ly/cardiac-kid-carter.
