As the 2026-27 school year gets underway, Republic FC and SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union continue their tradition of celebrating the region’s dedicated teachers and school employees. On August 22, two honorees from American Lakes School in Natomas Unified School District became the newest inductees into the growing list of Indomitable Educators. Meet Ana Torres and Jessica Castillo.

Torres is a school secretary at American Lakes and was recently honored as the Natomas Unified School District Classified Employee of the Year. Often the first face that families encounter at school, she has created a welcoming environment and is willing to step in to support students, families, and staff.
“She is a hardworking, kind, and deeply committed member of our school community,” said Principal Brian Sanino. “Families trust and appreciate her because she treats everyone with patience, compassion, and respect.”
On what makes her excited for work each day, Torres explains: “My greatest daily inspiration comes directly from the students. I want them to know that my belief in their potential is unwavering, even when they struggle to believe in themselves.”
Jessica Castillo teaches 3rd grade and first discovered her passion for education as a volunteer in her children’s preschool classrooms. In addition to her classroom responsibilities, she also regularly raises her hand to take on coaching needs and additional roles that support students and her school community.
“She builds strong, supportive relationships with students and families, creating a classroom environment where every student is positioned for success,” said Principal Sanino. “Jessica continually works to grow her skills and capacity as an educator, always looking for ways to strengthen her teaching and better meet the needs of her students.”
And if Castillo’s love and support for her students wasn’t already evident enough in Principal Sanino’s nomination, her message to them says it all: “They are capable of amazing things.”
