Sacramento Republic FC players, fans and staff participated at de Vere’s Irish Pub’s St. Baldrick’s Day, an annual event that raises money to help fight childhood cancers.
“It was clear everyone there wasn’t just there for an event but because they cared about a great cause,” said forward Mackenzie Pridham. “It was a lot of fun too.”
In total, dozens of people volunteered and more than 150 “shavees” participated at the event , while hundreds more donated to the cause. Republic FC’s goalkeeper Dom Jakubek and President Warren Smith shaved their heads during the event, while defender Emrah Klimenta and forwards Tommy Stewart, Harry Williams and Pridham volunteered and shaved participants during the fundraiser.
“Tommy and I shaved two Tower Bridge Battalion girls’ heads. One of them had extremely long hair, Tommy was a little nervous for that. Mine wasn’t too long, but I was probably more nervous than she was. I tried to give her a nice clean cut,” said Pridham, who helped shaved the heads of Tower Bridge Battalion members.

“It’s kind of special to shave your head for a something like [St. Baldrick’s],” said Jakubek. “When you’re getting shaved you think about those affected by cancer and what they have to go through. It’s a great cause and I’d absolutely do it again.”
While the event is over, St. Baldrick’s Foundation is still accepting donations for the event to benefit Keaton Raphael Memorial. Republic FC fans are encouraged to donate to St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Fans may make a donation to Jakubek’s page at www.stbaldricks.org.
