For the second year in a row, Sacramento Republic FC ended Reno 1868 FC's Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup journey in the Third Round. Republic FC had several good chances in the first half that they weren't able to capitalize on, going into the halftime break tied at zero. The lone goal of the match would come in the 69th minute when Keven Alemán blasted a free kick directly towards goal and past Reno goalkeeper Kyle Ihn to give Republic FC the lead and eventual win.
With the win, Republic FC advance to the Fourth Round of the Open Cup where they will face MLS side Seattle Sounders FC on June 6 at Papa Murphy's Park.
