SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento Republic FC will celebrate the dedicated work of the region’s school teachers during the team’s upcoming league match against Reno 1868 FC on May 11. To show their appreciation, the club is offering all teachers in the Greater Sacramento Area access to a complimentary ticket to the game, subject to availability, which can be redeemed by visiting www.sacrepublicfc.com/teacher-appreciation-night by the deadline of May 8.
Republic FC will honor the 14 teachers who were nominated for the 2019 Sacramento County Teacher of the Year award during an on-field ceremony at halftime. The program, which has been around since 1973, recognizes excellence in teaching within the county's schools.
“Teacher Appreciation Night is an opportunity to show our gratitude to educators for the critical work they do on a daily basis,” said Republic FC VP of Community Investment Scott Moak. “We see firsthand the valuable role teachers play in youth development and the impact that makes in our community.”

Gordon, Sacramento County Office of Education Superintendent. “We are grateful to Sac Republic FC for shining a spotlight on our area's outstanding teachers. Teacher Appreciation Night at Papa Murphy’s Park will be something our teachers will always remember.”
“I am humbled to represent Franklin High School, Elk Grove Unified School District and Sacramento County and excited to be recognized by Sac Republic FC at their upcoming game,” said Michael J. Steele, a Calculus teacher at Franklin High School and one of two Sacramento County Teacher of the Year Award recipients. “SRFC has laid great roots in our community and partnering with them in celebration of the great teachers and thriving schools in our region is an exciting addition to the Teacher of the Year program.”
Leading up to the match, Republic FC players and staff will be making visits to a variety of schools in the region to surprise and delight teachers, school site staff and even lend a hand in classrooms. The club is also partnering with Reading Partners – Sacramento to schedule a “book tour” from current Republic FC forward Tyler Blackwood who is the author of a children’s book. Blackwood will be conducting readings of his book, Clive The Croc Who Lost His Chomp, to underserved youth at Title 1 schools throughout the month of May.
Keeping in line with the night’s education theme, Republic FC will also be hosting an interactive Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) display at before the match. Among the 15 STEM stations will be an augmented reality display, robotics teams demonstrations and interactive maker spaces. These displays will be accompanied by a STEM Pathways Panel featuring representatives from Aerojet, RESULTS Physical Therapy & Training Center, SMASH – UC Davis, SIEMENS and SMUD.
Gates will open to the public at 6 p.m. and Republic FC will kick off against Reno 1868 FC at 7:30 p.m.
