Earlier today, the USL Championship announced that Republic FC’s Danny Vitiello was nominated for Fan’s Choice Save of the Week for Week 7. Voting is open now at USLChampionship.com through Friday, April 29 at 9:00 a.m. PT.
As time ticked down in the second half, Vitiello and the Sacramento backline found themselves under pressure. Despite being initially contained by excellent defense from Luis Felipe, Toros forward Frank Lopez broke free at the top of the penalty box and unleashed a powerful shot at goal. The New York born keeper saw the attempt coming and punched the attempt away with an all-out diving stop – his second save of the night – to keep things level heading into stoppage time.
This is the Vitiello’s sixth career nomination for the weekly honor, and the first with Republic FC. In 2021, he was recognized for his weekly work in the box five times as a member of Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.
