Republic FC – The Latest
The match in Albuquerque adds just another challenge to the list for the past two weeks. The club’s third straight match on short rest will again need to be a collective effort with New Mexico presenting a challenging environment for visiting teams to play.
Sacramento’s performance in Charleston Saturday was an indication that they can continue to be competitive with any combination of players on the field. Four different men found the back of net – three of them for their first score in league play, and one made his club debut. The match also saw Republic FC net four scores total and three in a single half for the first time in league play all season long. The club is hopeful the performance will help unlock a few players on the attacking end, namely Zeiko Lewis and Emil Cuello, who combined for two scores and an assist.
Know Your Opponent
United has been one of the league’s strongest clubs all season long, dropping points just three times. Entering this contest, they are unbeaten since June 25 and have lost just once since the start of May. The club took three points in dramatic fashion in their last match, a 2-1 win at the death against New York Red Bulls II.
Entering the second half of the year, the club will be battling for a spot in the top three in the West. Their good run of form and win on Sunday has put them just a game and change away from knocking off San Antonio, San Diego, and Colorado Springs, who have dominated the top of the table all year long. The tight Western Conference has however put a few teams on their tail, with Sacramento being one of them just five points behind.
Head to Head
Wednesday will mark the fifth meeting all-time between the two clubs. They last met in May – with each putting in a solid performance that resulted in a 0-0 draw. Sacramento holds a 2-1-1 record in contests against the Southwest club, outscoring United 6-3. The only other contest to take place in New Mexico went Republic FC’s way by a score of 3-0 in 2019.
