To kick off Mental Health Awareness Month, Republic FC and Western Health Advantage have launched a special t-shirt that promotes open conversations around mental health, inclusion, and self-confidence.

On the front, the phrase “Kick Those Negative Thoughts” is applied backward, creating an important message every time the wearer looks in the mirror: a reminder to focus on the positives in life. The back of the shirt emphasizes the importance of community and relationships when it comes to mental health. A 2023 study found that having at least one conversation with a friend per day can have a significant effect on a person’s mental health, significantly reducing feelings of stress, anxiety, and well-being, while also having a directly positive effect on overall mood and behavior.
A portion of proceeds from the shirt will benefit Sacramento-based nonprofit WellSpace Health, which operates the second-largest 988 Crisis Center in California and answers more than 100,000 calls, texts, and chats for people experiencing mental health and substance abuse issues. 988 is also incorporated into the design, reminding people that help is only three numbers away.
Throughout the month, Republic FC and Western Health Advantage will continue to introduce new Mental Health initiatives, both at Heart Health Park and throughout the region. Now through May 8, fans are encouraged to bring their friends out for a game or two with a $9.88 ticket special for any of Republic FC’s league matches in May.
