On June 6, Republic FC, in partnership with the Sacramento LGBT Community Center, awarded the 2026 Pride Scholarship to Hansen Wang, a student from Cosumnes River College (CRC), who will be transferring to UC Berkeley in the fall. Wang is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with the goal of continuing his education and earning a master’s degree.
As a Region II student intern for the Student Senate for California Community Colleges, Wang advocated for CRC’s PRIDE Center and the Center for Inclusion and Belonging to promote a more inclusive and supportive environment, specifically for minorities and underserved communities.
“I’m putting my aspirations into action by raising awareness across the campus about cultural inclusivity and diversity, regardless of how the political climate changes, to become a go-to advocate for students from underserved communities who need support in a safe space,” Wang said.
Wang attributes his success and career inspiration to the CRC Pride Center and Student Health & Mental Wellness Center, where he worked as a student staff member. “They inspired me to pursue a social work career: to help people not feel stranded in an ever-changing society, give continuous support to underserved communities, and refer them to the resources that can truly help them build and improve their lives,” Wang said.

Later this summer, the club will open applications for the 2nd Annual Indigenous Future Leaders Scholarship. The Republic Rising Scholars is powered by The PG&E Corporation Foundation, designed to celebrate and support the next generation of leaders and changemakers. These scholarships recognize outstanding students for their academic achievements, leadership, and positive contributions to their communities.
