Republic FC opens August with a 5-0 win at home over league debutant Sporting Club Jacksonville. After taking an early lead, the Indomitable Club never looked back and broke out for a stretch of three goals in five minutes to put the match out firmly out of reach before the break.
Republic FC made the most of an early mistake from Sporting JAX. An outlet pass from the goalkeeper was misplayed and Pep Casas took control of the ball, dribbling forward to put a low cross into the box, where Tyler Wolff calmly slotted it home in the 7th minute.
Sacramento continued to dominate the stat sheet and doubled its lead in the 38th minute. Mark-Anthony Kaye danced his way through the Jacksonville defense and forced a corner kick. Building on last week’s Team of the Week-worthy performance, Memo Rodriguez added his name to the scoresheet again as he sent a dangerous corner kick into the mix, where Jared Timmer rose above to head the ball on target for his first goal of the campaign.
The entire team combined for the Indomitable Club’s third goal of the night just two minutes later. The build up consisted of seven consecutive touches from between the midfield and defensive lines before Memo Rodriguez delivered a lethal through ball to Tyler Wolff, who easily found the back of the net for his first brace in Old Glory Red.
Rodriguez delivered from the corner again to give Sacramento a 4-0 lead before the break, this time connecting with the head of Lee Desmond at the near post. The goal put an extra special exclamation point on the night for Republic FC’s long-time Captain, as he celebrated his 400th career appearance. This also marks Memo’s first career three-assist game, and the first time since 2014 that a Republic FC player has recorded that tally.
On the other side of the break, Tyler Wolff was determined to get his hat trick. After his first shot of the half was saved, he capitalized on a moment in the box in the 69th minute. Following a blocked shot by Kyle Edwards, Wolff powered the ball that deflected off the defence and made contact with the back of the net, bringing Sacramento’s lead to 5-0. The three-goal performance was the second of Wolff’s career and the club’s first since 2023.
In between the sticks, Danny Vitiello went unchallenged until the 87th minute, but he confidently collected the ball. The two-time Golden Glove picks up his fifth clean sheet of the season.
Republic FC returns to the road for a two match trip beginning this Wednesday when the Indomitable Club visits FC Tulsa to play its rescheduled weather delay match from earlier in the year. Kickoff is set from ONEOK at 5:30 pm PT. On Saturday night, the Indomitable Club visits defending USL Championship title holders, Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
