Sacramento Republic FC Release 2018 USL Regular Season Schedule

Sacramento Republic FC released their 2018 USL schedule today which includes 17 home matches at Papa Murphy’s Park on the grounds of Cal Expo. Republic FC will kickoff their fifth season for the first time in club history at home for a St. Patrick’s Day match hosting San Antonio FC at Papa Murphy’s Park. Fans are encouraged to sign up for early access to single match tickets.

During the 2018 season, Republic FC will play every team in the newly aligned USL Western Conference at least twice, once at home and once on the road for a total of 34 matches. Republic FC will face Fresno FC and Seattle Sounders FC 2 three times. The Western Conference includes inaugural clubs Fresno FC and Las Vegas Lights FC and welcomes back Saint Louis FC from the Eastern Conference. Republic FC’s 2018 USL regular season will end at home on Oct.13 against Las Vegas Lights FC.

Notable home matches on the schedule include rivalry matches against Reno 1868 FC on May 12, newcomer Fresno FC on Aug. 4 and common foe LA Galaxy II on Aug. 18.

The balanced schedule includes a pair of two-match road trips, one in May and another in September. The club will host multiple two-match homestands. Republic FC will host a match during the California State Fair when they face OKC Energy FC on July 21. All fans with tickets to this match will also receive complimentary entrance to the fair on the day of the match.

Tickets are now on sale for groups of 15 or more and may be secured by calling (916) 307-6100. Fans are encouraged to sign up for early access to single match tickets via www.sacrepublicfc.com. A television and radio schedule for Republic FC will be announced at a later date.

Sacramento Republic FC Sign International Midfielder Keven Alemán

Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a USL contract with midfielder Keven Alemán for the 2018 season, with a club option for the 2019 season, pending league and federation approval.

Alemán joins Republic FC after making 17 appearances with Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa in the 2017 season. The midfielder has made 64 appearances and collectively scored seven goals while playing with Costa Rican clubs Herediano, Belén and Saprissa between 2014 and 2017.

Born in Costa Rica, Alemán moved to Ontario at the age of 10 and became a Canadian national. He joined Toronto FC’s Academy before ultimately moving to the Real Valladolid Academy in Spain. He has made numerous appearances on the Canada Soccer’s Men’s National team, winning silver at the 2011 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship and representing Canada at the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico, 2013 CONCACAF Men’s Under-20 Championships in Mexico, and 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Most recently, Aleman was called up for a friendly against El Salvador in October 2017.

Sacramento Republic FC Sign Forward Christian Eissele

Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a USL contract with forward Christian Eissele for the 2018 season, with a club option for the 2019 season, pending league and federation approval.

“We are delighted to sign Christian to the club,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “He is a quality player with international experience, height and goal scoring capabilities that will fit in nicely with the likes of Wilson [Kneeshaw] and Cam [Iwasa].”

Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a USL contract with forward Christian Eissele for the 2018 season, with a club option for the 2019 season, pending league and federation approval.

Eissele joins Republic FC following his strongest season in the Ykkönen, Finland’s First Division. The forward ranked third among all goal scorers with 11 goals and eight assists in 27 appearances for FF Jaro.

Eissele was born and raised in Orlando, Fla. and has played the last five years in the Finnish and Swedish leagues. The forward has scored 92 goals and recorded over 35 assists in over 163 career appearances. Eissele is a product of Richmond International Academic & Soccer Academy (RIASA) in Leeds, England where he trained before leaving in 2012 for PS Kemi Kings on a professional contract.

Sacramento Republic FC Sign Goalkeeper Joshua Cohen

Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a USL contract with goalkeeper Joshua Cohen for the 2018 season, with a club option for the 2019 season, pending league and federation approval.

“Finding a goalkeeper was a big challenge, but as we see now our recruitment efforts have paid off,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “We believe Josh has the skill set to become a significant asset for our club moving forward, and his stats last season, leading one of the best defenses in USL, back that up.”

Cohen joins Republic FC after helping lead Phoenix Rising FC to their first ever playoff berth and heading up the third best defense in the USL Western Conference. In 2017, Cohen played in a career-high 28 matches, recorded a 1.13 goals against average, recorded eight clean sheets and earned a 71.2 percent save percentage. He was also named USL Player of the Month in September.

Cohen has been a fixture in the USL for the last three seasons, making over 40 appearances, maintaining a 1.14 goals against average and recording 13 shutouts.

The goalkeeper had an incredibly successful collegiate career at UC San Diego. In 51 matches, Cohen allowed only 29 goals and amassed an 84.7 percent save percentage. Cohen also recorded 22 shutouts in college and allowed over 10 goals in a season just once. He was named to the NSCAA Division II First Team All-American while at UC San Diego.

Sacramento Republic FC will host San Antonio FC for its Opening Night at Papa Murphy’s Park on Saturday, Mar. 17. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. PT.

The St. Patrick's Day match will be Republic FC's fifth Opening Night and its fourth home opener at Papa Murphy's Park. This is the first time in club history that Republic FC will open the USL season at home.

The series between Republic FC and SAFC has been a battle between the two Western Conference marquee clubs compiling a 1-0-2 record including a 1-1 draw at SAFC’s last visit to Papa Murphy’s Park on Jul. 1, 2017.

The remainder of the 2018 USL schedule is to be announced at a later date.

Sacramento Republic FC to Host MLS Newcomers Los Angeles Football Club on February 25

Sacramento Republic FC announced it is hosting MLS side Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) in a friendly match at Papa Murphy’s Park on Feb. 25 in the run-up to LAFC’s inaugural MLS season. Kickoff is 2:00 p.m. PT.

This friendly is part of the 2018 Republic FC season ticket package.

This match will be LAFC’s final preseason match before it begins league play in its inaugural MLS season. The match is anticipated to be the first of many between LAFC and Republic FC that will continue to elevate the rivalry between the two cities and its passionate fans.

LAFC was announced as Major League Soccer’s 22nd expansion club in 2014 and will begin league play in March 2018. The club has already made multiple announcements including securing former U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Bob Bradley, signing Mexico National Team forward Carlos Vela and are currently in the final months of construction on a 22,000-seat stadium in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.

The friendly match will serve as one of Republic FC’s first preseason matches before the club’s 2018 USL season. Republic FC have played MLS clubs in each of their four preseasons, facing the San Jose Earthquakes and the Colorado Rapids in past seasons. The club has also played MLS sides LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake in U.S. Open Cup play.

Sacramento Republic FC Sign Defender Josh Turnley

Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a one-year USL contract with defender Josh Turnley for the 2018 season.

“Josh is a player that has impressed us these past two seasons as we followed his progress at LA,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “His skills and tenacity as a player will be a welcome addition to our back line and complement the likes of Elliott and Carlos.”

Turnley joins Republic FC after playing the last two seasons with LA Galaxy II. The defender was the first pick of the third round (42nd overall) of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. Soon after, he signed a USL contract with Los Dos, making 37 appearances, including 34 starts in two seasons. He recorded four assists as a member of Los Dos.

The defender had a successful four-year collegiate career at Georgetown. He appeared in 67 matches, including 61 starts, as a Hoya. Turnley recorded six assists, including a career-high three in 2013. The Georgetown defense was strong with Turnley leading the way, ranking eighth in the nation for goals against average in 2014 and leading the nation in shutout percentage in 2013.

Sacramento Republic FC Release Forward Trevin Caesar

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (January 5, 2018) – Republic FC has released Trevin Caesar by mutual consent of the club and the player.

“We would like to thank Trevin for his service to the club and we wish him well in the next chapter of his career,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle.

Caesar made 27 USL appearances in his only season with Republic FC, scoring seven goals and recording three assists.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (January 5, 2018) – Republic FC has released Trevin Caesar by mutual consent of the club and the player.
