SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento Republic FC announced today the loan of defender Elliott Hord to USL Championship side Hartford Athletic for the remainder of the 2019 season, pending league and federation approval. As part of the loan agreement, Republic FC has the right to recall Hord  up until the roster freeze date on September 20.

“This move will provide Elliott with valuable playing time in Hartford, while giving us some roster flexibility, said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant. “We see it as a win-win-win for all parties.”

Hord joined Republic FC in August 2016 from USL League Two side Fresno Fuego. The 28-year-old midfielder has made 61 appearances for Sacramento across all competitions during his four seasons with the club, scoring two goals and adding nine assists.

A Fresno native, Hord played collegiately at UC Davis from 2010-13, making 67 appearances and recording a goal and three assists during his four seasons with the Aggies. After college, Hord joined the Fresno Fuego before moving abroad to play with Yxhults IK in the Swedish third division. He returned to the Fuego after a season in Sweden before joining Republic FC midway through 2016.

“We are very pleased to add a player of Thomas’ caliber to our squad at this stage of the season,” said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant. “His experience at the highest level, and particularly in the USL Western Conference, will strengthen our attack in a major way.”

Enevoldsen arrives in Sacramento after spending the first half of the 2019 season with USL Championship side Indy Eleven, netting five goals and recording two assists from 20 appearances. 

The 32-year-old striker is currently in his second year in the USL after spending the 2018 season with Orange County SC where he finished the year as the league’s Golden Boot Runner-Up with 20 goals and 10 assists. His performances earned him selection into the 2018 USL Championship All-League First Team and placed him as one of the USL Championship MVP finalists.

Enevoldsen started his professional career in 2007 at Aalborg BK in the Danish Superliga where he won a league title and featured in the UEFA Cup, notably scoring against English Premier League Side Tottenham Hotspur FC at White Hart Lane. He then had stints with FC Groningen (Eredivisie), KV Mechelen (Belgian Pro League) and NAC Breda (Eredivisie) between 2009-2018. During his time with FC Groningen, Enevoldsen featured in the UEFA Champions League, playing against storied sides such as Manchester United FC, Villarreal CF and Celtic FC. 

A native of Aalborg, Denmark, Enevoldsen has represented his native country at the national team level. He scored his first international goal on May 27, 2010, in Denmark’s 2-0 win against Senegal and made an appearance in the 2010 FIFA World Cup as a substitute in Denmark’s 1-2 loss to Cameroon.

Shuttleworth arrives in Sacramento after spending the entirety of his 11-year professional career in Major League Soccer, most recently with Minnesota United FC. The Tonawanda, New York, native has played with the Loons since their inaugural MLS season in 2017, finishing that year with the second-most saves in the league (116).

Prior to his time in the Midwest, Shuttleworth spent eight seasons with the New England Revolution from 2009–2016, totaling 127 appearances, 124 starts, 34 shutouts, 344 saves and a 46-53-28 regular-season record. The 32-year-old goalkeeper anchored the Revolution during its run to the 2014 MLS Cup while tying the club record with 16 wins.

Shuttleworth will remain with Minnesota United through their August 10th match on the road against FC Dallas before linking up with his new teammates in Sacramento.

‘USL Academy’ contracts allow Republic FC Academy players to play in professional matches with the first team, while still maintaining NCAA eligibility by preserving their amateur status.

Ramos is the fifth Republic FC Academy player to be signed to a USL Academy contract this season. The goalkeeper recently featured for Republic FC during their international friendly against Club America U-20 on Tuesday night, helping maintain a shutout in the 2-0 win.

Republic FC continue their league campaign this Saturday,  July 20, as the team travels to Texas to take on Rio Grande Valley Toros FC. Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m. PT and the match will be broadcast live on KQCA My58, Estrella TV and ESPN+.

Formella joins Republic FC after spending the past seven years in Poland’s first division, winning a league title and two Polish SuperCups with Lech Poznan, as well as the Polish Cup with Arka Gdynia.

The 23-year-old winger, who can also play centrally in the attack, has experience playing in the UEFA Europa League and in UEFA Champions League Qualifiers, recording 10 appearances between the two competitions with Lech Poznan. 

Born in Gdynia, Poland, Formella has represented his native country at the youth national team level, most recently with Poland’s U-21 Men’s National Team.
