What’s the latest on the team?
Republic FC (4-5-2, 14 pts) host San Antonio FC on a high after a dramatic midweek win over Fresno FC in the Third Round of the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The win moves Republic FC into the Fourth Round of the tournament where they will face Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes next month at Avaya Stadium.
Wednesday’s game also saw the welcome return of midfielder Villyan Bijev who made his first appearance since sustaining a hamstring injury in April. However, the Indomitable Club will be without forward Tyler Blackwood and midfielder Keven Aleman due to rib and shoulder injuries, respectively.
Sacramento will look to take the momentum from their Open Cup win to correct course back in league play where the club is currently on a two-game losing streak following their defeat in El Paso last weekend.
What about the other guys?
San Antonio FC (3-6-3, 12 pts) arrive in Sacramento after also seeing U.S. Open Cup action midweek, albeit with a different outcome. The Texan side was unable to overcome a three-goal deficit and eventually fell 4-2 to Austin Bold FC. Things haven’t fared much better in league play, where San Antonio are winless in their past four games.
Head to Head
Saturday’s match will be the sixth-ever encounter between the two sides. Despite San Antonio’s recent form, Republic FC will have to be weary given the close results of their recent meetings.
- Overall: 1W-2L-2D
- Home: 1-0-2 (GF: 4, GA: 3)
- Away: 0-2-0 (GF: 0, GA: 2)
New Third Kit Debut
Republic FC will be debuting their newly released City Kit during Saturday’s match against San Antonio. Inspired by our hometown and the official Sacramento city flag, the third kit’s design features iconic symbols of the Indomitable City threaded throughout the jersey in a modern print.
