Sacramento Republic FC U-15/16 Academy forward Shaft Brewer Jr. has been called up by U.S. U-18 Men’s National Team head coach Omid Namazi as one of 23 players to participate in a training camp at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California.
The camp runs through Saturday, Apr. 30 and includes friendly matches against youth teams from nearby club teams, including Club Tijuana and the San Diego Nomads. Brewer and his fellow camp members will be preparing for the next series of U-18 matches in Guadalajara, Mexico from May 28 through June 8.
Brewer has played impressively during the Republic FC Academy season. He is currently averaging almost one goal every other match and leads Republic FC’s U-15/16 Academy side with 10 goals on the season. Brewer has started 21 matches over the course of 22 appearances for the U-15s/16s this season.Brewer is the fifth Republic FC Academy player to-date to receive a U.S. Youth or Men’s National Team call-up. Fellow U-15/16s player Mason Finnell was called to U.S. U-15 Boys’ National Team Camp in November, while U-17/18 defenders David Burns and Nabilai Kibunguchy received respective call-ups for the U-20 and U-18 Men’s National Team. U-13/14 midfielder Nicholas “Roberto” Hategan is the youngest Academy member to receive a call-up when he was named to the U.S. U-16 Boy’s National Team for the Tournament Delle Nazioni in Italy.
